With a true, symmetric 1gigabit connection (both upload and download), you can theoretically handle 1000 concurrent users per second serving 1 megabit of content to each.
So, yes you should be easily able to handle 10,000 visits per day given that such a connection would, in theory, easily handle 10M visits per day.
Off the top of my head:
- install and configure a firewall as soon as you can. Ubuntu and Debian distros have the
`ufw` firewall package.
- secure your ssh. Don't allow root login attempts. And setup key based auth into ssh.
- don't use a root user for adminstration. Make a new regular user and give it external access privileges.
- if you haven't updated your install yet, do it now.
- install a backup solution. And Letencrypt for https.
All are popular and good admin panels. I've used cyberpanel personally and can say it has most of the features you would need.
The only practical advantage to managing your own infra is that if you are handling a lot of sites, and have cheap electricity and commerical internet (that is, your ISP allows hosting servers on it), you can have very low running costs in the long run (provided you know to do the maintainence and sysadmin work yourself)
Other than that, you only have disadvantages. Hosting providers work at scale and have dedicated people for maintaining servers and doing the sysadmin work on their machines. You can't match their prices when it comes to small hosting needs.
The only times one would look for self hosting internet-facing websites on their own infra would be when they have a lot of websites, or operate at big-tech company scale, or are running a controversial site like Truth Social and Kiwi Farms thatve been banned from most hosting providers.
