Do you "need" it? - As with everything with SEO, it depends!
On what? - Whether or not you want to maximize the earnings potential of your site.
More traffic = more revenue
Is it mandatory? - No

So I read your reply like this:
with seo = (probably) more traffic
without seo = (probably) less traffic
Is that right?
If you are extremely lucky(which most people aren't), you would be rewarded by Google with more traffic despite doing little to no SEO. But most likely, nothing for you because you probably didn't do at least keywords research.Let's say I have created a blog having unique, handwritten, top quality content consisting of hundreds of articles. Do I still need SEO for traffic or will Google eventually reward it and send organic traffic?
The niche is yoga and meditation.
A site by a great wrier who is not an SEO himself lacks some important technical aspects. For example, meta description and title tags will be missing. Keyword research will not be done so the posts will struggle to rank high. Architecture of the site will suffer because of lack of attention.I have created a blog having unique, handwritten, top quality content consisting of hundreds of articles.
