Hi, I have a company name "X". The client wants to create 5 different domains to rank the brand "X" with certain organic keywords.

The content are unique, just the structure are the same.

We tried this and didn't see any result.

Is this HURT our SEO?
Thanks.

If they are completely separate and act on their own, in the eyes of engines they are from 5 different people.

Are their links the same? Have you used the same PBN to rank them for example?

5 different people meaning i compete with my own website for the ranking?
we have tried PBN too but doesnt help.

Yes, those sites are competitors to each other.

One PBN for all?

Not sure if this is exactly what you're going for, but I had a client that wanted something similar for reputation management reasons, not ranking (they wanted their own sites in the branded search results, and their company name was similar to some other company names in the same niche).
There are a couple ways to go about this. First of all, you can make separate websites for the company and the owners/founders. This itself will give you 2-3 websites. Then you can make a {companyname}reviews.com site (for ORM), or {clientname}fans.com (if in entertainment) etc etc - - you get the drift, make it somewhat plausible.
Finally you can just make a {nichekeyword}{location}.com site.
If you're doing this for reputation management, don't link them to each other. Don't have the same PBNs pointing to them either. You said your client wanted different sites to rank - - in my experience, if the niche is somewhat competitive there are budgetary constraints to making multiple sites rank, it's often better to just make a single site and focus on making site pages rank for keywords. If the niche isn't competitive then you can make do with socials/web 2.0 links, some good onpage and long form kw dense content.

Look how the "big" sites doing it, when you have multiple domain sites, on same niche, have different content on them and different variation of your domain name and logo.

Like this:
variation of domain name and different logo: content podcasts
variation domain name and logo= videos
variation domain name and logo= guides
based text website, news... etc,etc then interlink each site on the footer you will build seo properties...

Happy sunday !

I be more specific, build subsidiaries in your niche, is like divide and conquer....
slight modified variation of your main site Domain, each subsidiaries has it's own content.
so you will gain clients from multiple streams in same related niche, sub- niche, narrow down your niche and have multiple subsidiaries

O not think that the 16 big sites who rules google seo are interesting in this, they want conquer big broad niches.

So this will be your opportunity

Get you good seo ranking with co domains today? Is that colombia or does it means company ? (I think company...)
Yes there are more domains available as with com, com domains all over the world are taken. (most of them)

Is it in the eyes of customers/subscribers serious when they get your newsletter emails coming form co domain instead of com ?
Me extensions prices now upraising 10-12x folds, as it began it was $0,99 now it's $12-14.....

Here a very interesting article about multi domain seo with co domains

How to Use Multiple Domain Names for SEO from seo.co.

They write create short fantasy names who are memorable, no matter if they make sense, like blabbler, squattzy or something (as example) .
Easy to memorize fantasy doimain names, short no matter what it is about...(describe your niche on your cms site title)

What do you think about this ?

That is not a good idea to rank a same domain, use unique backlinks instead using domains

Yassolution; thank you for the tip ! Then it will be better having 3-4 different unique domain names, then try to rank for 3-4 similar name domains (like my markus or your X example).

To showing multiple times in the serps I will making 3-4 category pages for my main site - the other sub niches have different unique name domains.

noellarkin:
check deadspin, lifehacker, jezebel, maybe they have some same content on their categories who are similar, check their footer, then you see that they linking in tbe footer to their others sites .

Bad for seo or G ban? bahhhh......never...

can have same content on multi domains like zillow+ trulia and get high seo rankings?

what a crazy world....

another one today .....
Bloomberg is hillarious for his huge domain database.

Check bloomberg and the google first page is full with bloomberg, multiple spots with bloomberg.com/ articles...

Scroll more down other Bloomberg sites and domains coming up ..
But they not interlink all their bloomberg domains?

All have same theme color, same B logo...
So you see on this example it can not be a bad idea to have multiple domains with your name like this isn't it?

johnstec
johnsmarketing
johnsmedia
johnsppc
johnsnews
johnspodcast
johnsphilosophy

......etc,etc,etc.......
you violate any google rules with this domain strategy.

How so many Bloomberg domains coming up on G#1 first page, when they are not interlinked in footer of each site?

Please people, not coming up with irrational logics like:
they exist many years or have tons of backlinks ........

I'm trying to understand their strategy, they not use different domain names or short domains like dsishy, blubbs, cosco, whatsoever nope, they using their name Bloomberg all over the place.

It's Weekend Happy Friday !

They are known as pbns or Tier 2 sites , they are good tho most users does that .

Today I got reply email to my seo question why big sites have multiple serp position slike bloomberg....
here from Barry Adams:

The big sites have multiple category pages that are closely related in their topical focus - for example Bloomberg may have a category page for NASDAQ and one for 'Technology Stocks'. These pages will feature many of the same articles.

Then when Google gets a search like 'tech stocks' where it's not 100% sure what the intent is, it will try to fulfil that query with pages that are slightly different interpretations of the topic of the search. So Google may pick pages from the 'technology stocks' topic and pages from the 'NASDAQ' topic, and show a mix of both. And, as Bloomberg has high authority pages that tick both of these topical boxes, it will show with these two pages in its SERPs.

Generally only websites that have a lot of content spread out over many different category pages - and that have a lot of authority, i.e. links - tend to be able to get two or more of their pages onto a single Google results page.

A new view of sight, that shows category pages will eventually get more serp positions.
G shows multiple serp positions of high authority websites - but I not found one single word or sentence about this in the G policies....

And Barry wrote that example bloomberg have a lot of similar content on similar topics, so google will showing more than twio results
(zillow- trulia method).

Here in my screenshot you see a good example of an category page from MOZ.
Then check bloomberg sites 8com) click on any category like economics, full with posts, you not see any descriptions about the category topic there like MOZ has (my screenshot).

Some category pages are big content hub's.
I wondering, bloomberg not needs such hub category pages, he writes a lot of similar content like zillow+trulia in related topics, so with that google is trying to give best user experience and shiwng more than two results in the serp from bloomberg.

These big sites doing more gray/blackhat than many of us here.....
You not find any sentence in google's policies that they saying; we showing more than two results in the serp from one domain , when the site has high authority......you will not find such in their policies.

One piece more of their dystopian subtile lies to us, G is very sophisticated they tell you only the piece you should know not more, the other pieces they not tell you is for their wef friends a big elitist community.

You need good level of deep thinking when you read new G policies or listen deep what Matt Cutts telling you, you must listen between the snetences...

Happy Friday to all here!
