Twitter's Blue Tick is ridiculous

Even worst now, paying for it will make pretty much any account have it. Now it wont be a question of verification, to know you're talking to the real person behind that user, now it will just be a question of who's "premium" and who's not.

It always has been, even twitter itself is, pure ego hungry politicians' nonsense.
it's just bullshit, getting blue tick shouldn't be that easy. elon musk literally bought twitter only to fuck it up

There is a rampant bot problem on Twitter. This is a baby step towards legitimizing "real" people. I'm sure it's not the end all be all and there will be some higher level verification for public figures, celebrities, etc.

It's a multi-billion dollar company that just got bought out. They're going to try different shit. There will be growing pains. But 5 years from now I'll bet every dollar in my bank account Twitter is worth more than he bought it for.

He's 100% nuts but he knows how to make a buck.

This little ride will be interesting just to see how it plays out.

Everytime i see someone's comment who has blue tick i automatically think that those people must be very important people or something, and then i visit their profiles and their number of followers : 10

I don't know why everyone hates it.

I personally think it's a really good idea.

If people go for it, then it will result in a social platform with only real people. Anyone who's not blue ticked just won't appear in feeds and has a high likelihood of being a spam bot or troll.

We are basically paying to have a platform for free speech.

And you have to..

If you don't have the people pay, then who pays?

The corporations.(Hides his corporation. we're not all bad ;-) )

Seriously though.. It's big media and big money that pays, and any platform monetized by them is going to run their agendas.

So I personally think this is a great idea IF it catches on and people do it, which I believe they will.

There has of course been a bot issue with the platform, and it appears Elon has discovered (from his team's internal review) that largely comes from the app itself, inflating the value and influence of its membership. But Musk notes there has also been a rampant "lords vs. serfs" problem on Twitter, where the former have taken liberties and get away with far more violations of the TOS than most of the other members, because they have that exalted verified status. So the changes he's making are designed to level the playing field so that everybody feels things are fair.

In that case, your perception of the Twitter blue tick, needs to be tweaked. Social media platforms design themselves to be purposefully "misleading".

From design point of view it looks ugly. Every other account has blue tick and it catches unnecessary attention.

Was Elon Musk not smart enough to know this before he made the US$8 monthly stunt ? Let's see what his next Twitter stunt will be.

Just think about how much money twitter will make with this considering the large audience twitter have is enormous

I think it's genius and it will work out in the end.
Of course A LOT of abuses, bugs and shit will happen during the process.

Give it a year or so and watch all other social media companies adopt some kind of a subscription/verification model.

In the end, I can see only a few groups of people hurt by this:
1. Those who have paid $$$ for verification and now see it available for $8/m
2. Those who sold bots or verification services

I can agree to that, now the blue tick isn't special anymore, you cannot see the difference till you press on it.
Anyways Elon knows how to make Money, so yea.

Elon Musk has had a couple of failed businesses where he also lost money. Twitter may be one of them & we will soon perhaps know this, if he makes money or loses money out of his investment in buying (or taking over) Twitter.

Does not matter as they have money.
