Just wanted some advice from anyone who has done any major URL restructure on their active website. And yes proper 301 redirects will have to be done on all changes pages.

The site was built years ago and runs all pages like this
url.com/category
url.com/product
url.com/subcategory
url.com/page

So you can see its all 1 tier sub-folder setup.

1) Is it worth changing it up to to utilize proper category like structure?
url.com/category/product
url.com/category/sub-category/product

2) Has anyone done so without messing up their ranks?

Did you manage to do the restructuring?

I have this same doubt, I have more than 60 thousand links already published and I want to do a better restructuring of the links, separating them into categories for better performance on google.

You will likely take a hit for 4 to 6 weeks before seeing things bounce back, but from my experience it is much better in silo structure.

Yes I do agree, but 301 redirecting the pages that has years of built up links might be quite bad. 301 redirects do lose a little link juice.

You're probably right tho.

Actually just watched realized that google has always been preaching not to change you URL structure, so if anyone reads this post.

Just don't change your url structure unless you have to.

So end of story here not going to mess with the structure and loose all that hard work.
