So for my e-com brand I wanted to do IG shoutouts in exchange for a free sample. Over 100 influencers I've contacted only 1-2 of them answered back.

Mostly I've used their e-mails to contact and some of them I've DMed.

Where am I making a mistake? Any better way to do Influencer marketing? Mass DMs work for that?

Instagram influencers best to reach via dm, also identify the perfect match first before you dm them, 100 is too many.

I think they also don't see DMs since I'm not in their friends list

You should start by looking to work with relevant micro or nano influencers, where you are establishing yourself.

Yeah I went for micro influencers in my niche. Offered a sample in exchange for a shoutout. Problem is they even don't open DMs. Perhaps sending DMs from a male account is the problem? All influencers I contact are women.

Why not contact them from the brand page directly?

Look through all of their metrics first and choose the right ones and start there. Choose based on one’s that match your audience the best, the best engagement, etc.. then reach out to them via dms. I would also contact them on email if they have it, especially for larger pages.

I got a lot of them to respond by also commenting on their recent posts to check their dms and small things like that.

Try everything you can to make them notice you and if they don’t respond then sometimes they probably never will. You could be lost in hundred of unread dms.

Well, that's the problem. They don't want samples, they want to get paid in cash.

I sell an expensive product like 100-150 USD range, thought it would be interesting for some of them at least

Yeah finally I managed to catch a few interested ones with comments like "Hey! Could you check your DMs"

Instagram filters most DMs from accounts without any mutual connection

I have either DM or their email addresses, what do you mean with brand page?

Please use the multi-quote function if possible, as it makes the threads flow much easier. How to multi-quote can be found here Newbie Guide

I've started over the last six months to market a new business through IG. Once I picked up a couple hundred followers I started getting DMs like this offering free jewelry samples in exchange for promotional posts. Jewelry couldn't be farther from the business. Most of these DMs get caught by IG's spam filters so they sit in my DM request folder and I just delete them. If it's not unrelated product offers, it's marketers who want to handle my social media accounts. Actual influencers are probably getting several of these daily and ignore most of them.

You could probably get better results from targeting smaller accounts in your niche and even hit up people who aren't influencers who might like your sample enough to place a paid order. If you're getting hits from 1-2% and can't seem to budge from that low response rate, sometimes you have to accept that is just the success rate of that shotgun approach and do more.

Comment on their post, follow them, and look at their stories.
Engage with the influencers you want to work with.
