Is it effective to do cloaking based on ASN number?

So, I'm not trying to run Google Ads campaigns or anything special.

I just want to show different pages to users based on ASN number. Like, if the IP's ASN number matches Google's ASN number then show page A, if it doesn't then show page B.

How do you think this will be effective in the long run?

With a pro cloaker you work at a higher level but yeah, why not, if you got a IP database with some intelligence added to it, why not target specific networks?

Cloaking by ASN means you'd have to query ARIN, APNIC, or RIPE each time. You could cache the results, but if you are going to make a cache list you may as well just make a blocklist.

A simple way to filter for cloaking is to do a DNS PTR lookup on the IP. The result will be a domain name, like amazonaws, google*, etc. Your rule could be to block against a list of cloud domains and obvious domains like 1e100, or you could do a whitelist and allow only IPs that return a residential ISP type of result on the PTR lookup (comcast, verizon, centurylink, etc). For IPs that return no PTR record, treat them as "bad".

PTR lookups will almost always be faster than querying the IP registries using HTTP.

Now a days cloaker also getting smarter. few of them are using AI to update there db and understand the patterns of network bots. Few of them are JCI , trafficshield. I guess they give ASN blocking also.

I have never seen this happen!
It's not a reality for me!
