Usually people find successful, confident people to be egotistical. I'm actually not. I just have high self esteem and don't feel the need to impress people or give out "respect" to everyone I meet.

But, I don't believe in running around calling people "Sir" to show respect. Hence why I say "fuck respect". I am deliberately being over the top and putting a harsh energy into it to break the reality of "you must be nice to people, show respect and be liked". You do not. Put yourself first, make bank, be fucking confident and then help people in need with your power.

Yeah, so, I actually have very severe health problems and sometimes I pick up side-work to help pay for bills and treatment.

My original business hasn't done well since the pandemic began and I've barely done much VA work at all.

Right now, I have to take what I can get because I am very sick and I shouldn't have to explain this to you.

You're making assumptions and literally hating on me for working when most people would simply give up and go on disability.

Why are you asking for my budget? My budget could be 100K up, but this is not the point. WHAT IS YOUR PRICE? Show some pride in what you do.

This sentence makes me so nervous I immediately close the door to work with those people.

I ask this, actually. I get clients myself, without fiverr. In my case I'm asking this because I prefer higher paying clients, but get a lot of cheapskates and was loosing these sales completely so now I ask about their budget, if their budget is low I sell them some complete shit instead of loosing a sale and not earning anything. If their budget is good I work hard on their campaigns.

So maybe they're checking how poor you are to judge if they have to treat you seriously or not. Think about it this way.

I don't think there is nothing wrong with using Sir for your clientele, only if it gets too excessive. When you first meet a potential client, I still think its important to to greet them with "Sir" or "ma'am" I just think it needs to be done in the correct manner for it to not seem off putting.

Depends on the language... In my native language I always use sir because that's how we talk to strangers in that language. In english it'd sound very weird. Different cultures.

Actually, a lot of people still use these expressions and it's totally normal, calling someone SIR is a sign of respect.

as for asking clients what their budget is, personally, I do that with the ones that have +$10k projects otherwise I'd provide a quote for the work.

I always ask a person's budget if they are becoming a managed client. This is because it saves their time but more importantly my time.
If they are buying a link or link package, that's fine, they know what they are spending. When they come to me for advice, I then spend several hours with them and they then announce they can go to $600 a month to rank against sites spending $40k a month, it's laughable.


There are far too many idiots out there wanting SEO and have zero idea.

I replied $500 per link or per day.

He wants to get a ranking for CBD site with $85 a month. YES you read that right, $85. Not $850, not $8,500 not $85k

I had someone else last week asking me to rank against a DR86 site in an entertainment niche and his budget was $350.

I use freelancer.com for 7 years. Another annoying thing is even after having full requirements on the project details page they will quote less and once we inititate the chat they will raise the bid to 50x.

I tend to walk away too. Budget shouldn't matter. Having said that, I know designers who only work if you tell them your budget. Happened to me several times. I just say my budget is $200 total LOL

Well, the person is a freelancer for a reason. I personally do ask what my client's budget is, precisely because regardless what my price is, I could be willing to work within his means (budget).

You think 1 cleaning job is going to pay for their move from one country to another, new apartment in a city that has massively inflated rental prices (higher than Dubai), heating, baby supplies, duvets and pillows?

They are not "my staff". They are a new cleaner I hired to clean my house. Do you expect me to pay them so much it fixes their entire life situation with 6 hours work?

It makes no sense at all. I mention my staff in one sentence, then a cleaner I hired in another, and somehow this shows I don't treat my staff well.

So if I get an uber and he can't afford his bills, am I an evil capitalist because my "staff" can't pay their bills? How stupid.

And this is exactly why you ask someone's budget. Clients take TIME. Successful businesses are fucking busy and can't afford to spend all day messing around with people who can't afford their services.

If you've got multiple prospects to deal with every day, you do not have time to spend even an hour with someone if they can't afford your services.

Let's say you've got 4-5 leads per day, and you spend just an hour with each, listening to them, answering emails, preparing quotes, preparing proposals.. 2 out of 5 of them it turns out just can't afford your service. You're wasting 10 hours a week, 40 hours a month or almost 500 hours per year. Completely wasted, when you could have just asked "What's your budget? Ok, $200. Too low for our services, sorry. All the best. Bye." 30 seconds wasted.
