[Journey] Fresh Domain, No Link Building, Just Content

Quick update:

Just posted another article (if you can even call it that) :anyway:

I was already in the mindset that I'd do another post tonight and just stumbled across a keyword which perfectly suited an affiliate style article.

Well, I've never written one before - my posts have always been purely informational.

This keyword focused on one product and it ticked the boxes for a keyword I'd normally go for. So I thought what the hell and have quickly knocked up a post and chucked an affiliate link in.

Not expecting miracles - it may never even bring a single sale. BUT, at the very least it's a fresh piece of content for the website and perfectly fits my niche.

I can treat it as a test too I suppose - whether I should keep sprinkling affiliate articles in or just stick to informational content :D

Thanks for checking in again all!

You're not doing badly, but to see some results (and for me to tag you perhaps :D) you have to ramp it up a bit. 18 articles in nearly a year since you started this journey just isn't enough to get any traction... Hope for the best for you anyway, and will follow the journey from now on!

Good luck mate, since you are not planning to build backlinks, you should at least pump in more content for great results.

Tell me about it, really haven’t spent enough time on this site :anyway: if I can keep up current momentum, it should be a min of 3 a week which will be a hell of an improvement :)

Definitely, watch this space ;)

Why don't u try to add some aff links on your site vs Exotic? The traffic is pretty low so more targeted products would pay u better.

I may well sprinkle some affiliate links in where it makes sense. But currently all but 1 of the posts are completely informational.

I’m planning on adding much more content so hopefully, in time, the traffic will grow.

With the current trend of Google updates hitting affiliate content, if I was you I would not add any affiliate links until you have at least 100 posts and decent traffic (10K+ PV/month). And even then do it with moderation.

No sense making a few cents here and there with taking such risks at this stage of your project.

Makes perfect sense mate. I just came across this keyword and thought I'd give it a try!

The rest of my list is informational posts so I'll stick to those for the foreseeable future anyway.

Hopefully I'll be updating you later that I've done another post!

Another quick update!

Posted another information article, just shy of 1200 words.

So that brings me up to 20 articles! Hopefully I can keep this momentum up and I'll post a full update at the end of this month.

2 more posts live since I last updated this thread so that brings it to 23 articles so far.

1 of them was slightly shorter than normal at around 350 words but without adding a load of fluff, that's all that could be written.

The other is just over 1000 words.

UPDATE #7

So, here's the next big update!

POSTS

UPDATE #7.jpg

I have a total of 25 posts on this site now that are live.

Word count for some of the posts has been under 1000 but with the nature of keywords I'm currently targeting, there's little to no competition and I really don't want to stretch the content for the sake of it.

This progress is spurring me on - it definitely feels as though I'm on the right track!

I'm hoping to keep up my current pace at least. It's much better than it was a few months ago :alien:

SUMMARY

That's my latest update! Hopefully I can bring you even better news at the end of the month.

Any questions, fire away.

P.S - still no links built :)

I've just realised it's a year tomorrow since I started this journey - wow, don't wait around if you're planning to start. Time doesn't wait for anyone!

I just wanted to quickly post and hopefully inspire a few of you to take action if you haven't already.

I'm currently around 25 - 30 minutes into writing another post and I cannot stress enough how much easier it is if you know about the topic and enjoy it too.

I've smashed out around 500 words already just writing completely from my head and formatting whilst I go.

This has been the easiest post so far and I'll hit 1000 words within the next half an hour without a struggle and adding no fluff.

It's also a small test for myself. I primarily use the KGR method for my articles but wanted to push it and see what kind of result I get when I target a higher search volume.

For instance, KGR tells you to have a maximum volume of 250 searches per month. You then divide the number of 'allintitle:' results by the monthly volume to get a number. You aim for 0.25 and below - the lower the result, the easier it should be too rank quickly and hopefully within the top few positions.

I've found a keyword with 2600 monthly searches and 5 'allintitle:' results which gives me 0.00192308. This would obviously be a great number when I don't 'break the rules' but what the hell - I'm going to see if I get similar results with this keyword.

Hopefully I can report that it works and I get some decent traffic from it. I mean I believe I'll get traffic from this regardless but if I'd love for it to reflect what Ahrefs says for the monthly volumes.

Whatever happens, the results will allow us all to make our own opinions of the KGR method and learn just a little bit more about this great world of SEO.

Thanks for reading - looking forward to posting another update!

Soooooo...

I got comfortable and lazy. Last post got added in November 2022.

BUT - the website has continued to improve! I thought it would have peaked or fell away by now. However, last month I got an email from Google telling me I had surpassed 900 visits within 28 days! Here's the milestones passed according to Google since October 2022:
  • 05/10/2022 - 250 clicks in 28 days
  • 22/01/2023 - 300 clicks
  • 31/01/2023 - 350 clicks
  • 27/03/2023 - 400 clicks
  • 03/04/2023 - 450 clicks
  • 13/04/2023 - 600 clicks
  • 25/04/2023 - 700 clicks
  • 04/06/2023 - 800 clicks
  • 19/06/2023 - 900 clicks

Now I know this is nothing special but for the website to carry on gaining traction whilst I just let it sit there at least tells me my articles are worth something.

And still not a single link built to this day.

So I now need to pull my finger out and actually start pushing this damn thing.

I've attempted Google Adsense twice now but I think some of my categories are a little light on content. I need 15 more articles written and posted before I attempt to sign up again - this will give me the magic number of at least 6 posts per category on my site (some already have more - clearly enjoyed writing about those more than the others).

I'm trying to use these little victories as motivation to not just let this website fall away. I'm proving (even if it's just to myself at this point) that good content will bring the visitors. I know that links will do this too but the whole point of this journey was to get a website filled with traffic and earn some money from it without needing to spend anything on link building.

Here's a screen shot of how the site has performed over the last 6 months according to GSC.

TLDR: website not touched since last November, constantly achieving higher visitors, must keep posting.
