I'm lost with reddit

As it currently stands I'm trying to use reddit to promote my youtube channel and to be honest I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I have karma right now but all the methods of self promo are basically just violating the terms of any subreddit. And how would I go about recruiting people to a brand new subreddit I have just created. Does anyone have some resources I could learn from I have already copped a book by @mylastvacation which gave me some ideas to use however I am missing the basics and would really appreciate a bit of direction

1. Be helpful in the relative subreddits.
2. Answer people questions.
3. Link to your videos when people asking for more information / source, etc.

Use throwaway accounts to do self-promo. "Damn bro this post is awesome! You should share it to the most underrated subreddit XXX|

Reddit sucks if you've never used it, when I started using it I was very lost but little by little I began to understand it, what I can tell you is to seek help as they can penalize you

Try to put a spin on your posts so you promote but not blatant about it
