eCommerce Orphan Links

Good day. I have a question.

For the eCommerce website, we keep adding new products to the website. When we upload it, it generates new URLs. Furthermore, not all of the products are internally linked to any other categories, pages, or posts. As a result, AHREFS or another crawler triggered many orphan links in the site audit. It is not viable to resolve orphan links by randomly linking 1000+ products.

If someone here runs an eCommerce website, do you have any ideas or suggestions about how to fix it?

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Well, you have to give them links, otherwise they'll stay orphaned. Here are a few options

1) Make blog posts about the items, or about some process where you can link to multiple items. For example, say you're selling paint products, and the following products are orphaned, paint brush, paint tray, replacement roller, coveralls, protective sheets for the floor etc. They're all from different categories and are used for different purposes but you can make a blog post about how to paint your door, and this is what you need, and show some pictures and some info about how they're all used in conjunction. This would also give the added benefit of being informational and increase traffic to your website.

2) The easiest way would be to include these products as upsells on other products. bought paint? How about a spare roller and sheets?

It's a very basic example, but could you do this?

1. The numbers are huge. I'm referring to 2000-3000 orphan pages across all products, including multilingual URLs. These pages cannot be linked from a single or a couple of blog posts. It will look spammy. I did, however, make a blog post dumping all of the URLs there and linking back to it all. I conceal the blog post from the front end so that no one can find it. Google has indexed the post. The figures are still the same in the last crawl. It may take some time to crawl, but I am not sure it will work.

2. Upsells are not currently available on the website.

3. Redirect, delete, or deindex are not open options for me. Because these are all live products, and the team wants to index them all.

Does sound strange though, how do you have product listings that are un-categorised?
