I got a clean expired domain which has good backlink profile and no exploitation in the past. But I can't see it indexing when I search for site:domain.com.

Does it matter?

Is this a red flag?

No I haven't bought it yet.
so it won't index then. And yes, I know that sometimes expired domains are still indexed, but this is rare and more like an exception than the norm

If it's recently expired, then it should be in the search results. Generally, it's a red flag but sometimes, Google removes old domains from SERPs because of not having any website. So, slap a WP install and wait for a couple of days. You will know if it's penalized or not. Another option is to add the site to GSC, you will see the penalty, if there's any, over there.

Hope you did check to the complete back link profile, if did and they are all clear then there will be no penalty. This might be the action with google removed cause they don't see a website.

Don't worry. Just check the history if they are good history and then you can build it.

There are many factors you should consider for buying expired domains.

Check if it is PBN or not. Maybe it was flagged by G.

check the domain history on wayback machine, sometimes expired domains have clean history but expired long time ago then got deindex

If it has clean history but has been long time since expired, can it be revived? As per my research it can be and it will not go to sandbox again. What are your thoughts?

It's an expired domain.

More likely than not, it's not going to be in the index.

The key here is to [/b]focus on using it to its full potential[/b].

Look at its Wayback Machine listing and take a good look at the content that it used to contain.

See if you can recreate that kind of content coverage so as to reclaim its backlinks and benefit fully from its SEO value.

How much time its been since you built a website with it? You will have to wait for some time and as you said you have not yet added it to the GSC, so add it first and then check the results back in few days. (GSC will tell you if it is penalized or not.)

As one other member has said above, you need to add good content and keep it updated regularly. It will be crawled soon and will get indexed.

First make your site live using the domain , then add it to GSC.
