Sudden Drop in views, threshold theory? case study?

it wont recover next mounth or whatever once the recommend doesnt show up again u can forget the channel :))) at least if gaming is the niche i had over 10 channels who made like 2-3 milions per video and in like 3-4 weeks died :))) its not shadow ban or whatever this is how youtube works :)))
It's not gaming niche and don't you post shorts? We are talking about normal videos here.

Yes, you need to post content consistently, and after sometime your channel will be fine.
That's what I'm thinking too. There is NO WAY my channel went into a stage where it's irrepairable. My money is on the threshold theory. Can nobody tell me every channel who has drops in views stays death for all eternity.

I think and hope so, too.

Thank you for your reply! I really enjoyed reading it, especially because it gave me the awareness that I'm not the only one having this issue.

To give us a bit of hope: I've seen some channels within my niche, that have recovered from this. At least I assume, they have - based on their channel stats & views and how they evolved over time. You can follow a channel's growth & evolution on Socialblade. For instance, two of my key competitors had this problem, too: new channel growing fast; first 7-10 videos with a few thousand views each within days. Then, somewhere after the 10th upload, the views dropped dramatically. The next 15-20 videos had no more than a few hundred views each. One competitor stopped uploading after his 25th video or so, discouraged, probably assuming his channel is irreversibly damaged and that it's not worth the time & effort. The other one though kept uploading and then, out of nowhere, the views for one of his videos (somewhere between the 25th and 30th upload) literally exploded, generating 150k views within a week (which can be considered viral in this small, targeted niche). After that second blow up, that guy's views didn't drop again. That second boost in views occured somewhere between the 3th and 4th month of uploading, judging by the upload frequency (3-4 videos a week on average).

I don't want to spread false hope. Maybe that guy did some cross promo to give his content an extra push manually. Maybe he was lucky. Who knows? But at least I can say that his channel was or had been in a similar situation to ours. So, from my point of view it is definitely worth "playing the waiting game", as you nicely described it - for at least one more month of consistent uploading HQ content, even if I currently don't have the motivation to do so - just to see, if this can be overcome and fixed or if this is permanent.

Fingers crossed.

This is actually normal for most channels tbh.
I run 6 channels and browse features is always spikey.
Occasionally, you might have a video which gets boosted for months but usually this isn't the case.
Your channel doesn't have many subs so doesn't have much support for views.
By support I mean search presence + suggested video placements.
If most your views are coming from browse you can expect this sort of thing to happen.

Post more content and increase AVD even more and you will get longer boosts.
Play the long game my friend.

Thanks again, for your valuable input. This gives me a lot of hope and I think it‘s doable to "recover" from this. I will keep uploading of course but it‘s still hard to see impressions stay low despite having a very decent retention rate and CTR rate. We gotta keep fighting and update everyone on what is currently happening to our channels. Appreciate you.

Update: Newest video, 86% retention, 12% CTR and only 18 views. Nothing happening still despite good retention and CTR.

From my experience youtube is just testing our channels from time to time, boosting us with views from either browse feature or suggested videos. At first they will boost us with like 1k views then stop boosting us for some time, then again boost us for like 5k views then stop boosting us. If our channel has good CTR and retention from those views then youtube will continue to boost us with even more views, one step at a time. They are just testing if our content is good enough to take us to the next step. They can't just give us millions of views without being sure the content we are posting is good enough.

Before the sudden crash of views, all my videos would get tested with impressions. If I had a bad video it would just test the next one but now even if it's doing good from the start, the impressions just stop after exactly 24 hours and don't progress at all. Even if my CTR is above 15% and retention at 70-90%. No matter how good my video is, it doesn't get pushed anymore.

This is exactly what happen to my channel. Sudden blow up and then after 3 weeks viewer drops 90% without any reason. Still grinding to this day with around 40 viewers a day :(.
Eventi me the same... How much days are now of decline chanel? Did it recovered? Same situation i am..

Update: Views are SLOWLY going up again, might be a good sign. The month is near its end so threshold might be about to refill or expand. I will keep fighting.

Yeah, my newest video got 8 views in 8 hours now. Impressions are stuck. Hopefully this month will go better

Same here, bro.
This is pure horror. The only way I can upload content now is by not watching my stats. Extremely demotivating & disheartening.

I suppose, this is the moment where 95% of all content creators quit. I won't. Hopefully that's gonna pay off soon.

Have you checked the performances of your competitors' videos?
Yes, I have.

Same as usual: some are performing well, some worse. I don't see any changes in terms of quality or style amongst my competitors' most recently uploaded videos. I managed to outperform a good bunch of them before this "crash" and since my CTR & retention are on the same (high) level as before, I don't see any reason why I should be outpaced by my competition now.

Thank you for your input, mate, but this is not about views from browse features, but from suggested videos. Browse features-driven views are always spikey, even now after the drop. It's the suggested video impressions, that have been killed almost entirely by the algorithm.

I am a new Youtuber... and i have the same problem....does this happen usually... (somebidy here has a old chanel that have already seen these fluctuations)...or is something to be worried?

Any updates?

One of my videos is being pushed a bit more right now (500 views per 48h), but only from browse features-driven impressions. Paradoxically it is the video with the worst stats (lowest CTR & one of the lowest retention rates channel-wide). This is impacting my channel overall stats performance, so I don't understand why YT has picked exactly THIS video to push and not some of the content with decent stats (CTR 10-14%, Retention 35-40% for 7-10 minutes video length). YT's algo acts like a gambler sometimes, seriously. I don't see any sense in pushing a channel's worst performing video, but this is exactly happening right now to one of my videos.

Good to see some progress, but on the other hand I am aware, that views from browse feature tend to be spikey; in this case they will drop sooner or later, I suppose. It's impressions from suggested videos we all need and we are all interested in, because they can bring you constant growth in views over a long period of time, without being too spikey. You will not get any of your videos to go viral without impressions from suggested videos.

Views from suggested videos on my channel, though, are still all dead.

I keep uploading consistently, at least for this month. And I have changed my upload schedule from 4-5 uploads per week to 7 per week (daily). I believe, consistent, daily uploading (with no gaps at all) can have a massive impact on your channel authority and help get any thresholds/caps/shadowbans removed from your channel a lot faster. But it's challenging to keep up the pace, especially when you see little to no progress in the first days, weeks.

I'll keep you updated.

That's good to hear brother. At least someone is getting a little progress... I haven't uploaded a video in 4 days because I cba and I had a lot of stuff to do with IRL work. I will try to upload a video today to see if anything has changed at all. I will give it my all but I lost like 90% interest on my channel ever since my views dropped so drastically. Before, I was thinking 24/7 about my channel and now I check my stats like every 1-2 days because I couldn't care less at the moment. If my performance stays like that for this month I will stop uploading for a long time because I do not want to spend money, resources and a lot of time just to get 20 views in 48 hours, I feel like a clown. I will update you guys in a few hours but I am happy your channel made somewhat of a progress so keep fighting even tho it's hard.
