I usually try to avoid posting anything that sounds too self-indulgent, but I feel like I'm at a point where I need some advice from more experienced peers.
A little background: I'm relatively new in the internet marketing space, I actually pivoted into IM in 2018/19 after trying (and failing) to be a full time musician.

I never really intended for this to be a career when I got into it, it started out as a way for me to augment my income. I had gone to design school and I had friends in the architectural industry. I also had some basic know-how regarding brand promotion online, having done some social media management for my musical projects. I put the two together, and started offering brick and mortar architectural/construction businesses "Online PR packages". I was also pretty lucky to get some amazing mentors early on, who taught me the fundamentals of SEO. I did that for a few years, whilst still balancing out this work with music projects. Finally, when COVID-19 wiped out the live music scene, I decided to learn more about marketing, and jumped headfirst into everything about it that seemed interesting.

These days, the majority of my work involves botting, coding, funnel design and writing copy.

I love the challenge of marketing, and how dynamic it is, but I also feel like somewhere along the way I lost the plot. I barely get enough time to practice my instrument these days, and when I do get free time, I find myself spending it learning coding, or digging deeper into some business/marketing information. It's not even about the money anymore, I'm making more than enough money to live comfortably. I also feel very, very removed from the person I used to be before I got into marketing - - I don't hang out with friends as much as I used to, I don't care about my dating life as much as I used to. In some ways, I like how focused I am these days, but I also wonder if I'm painting myself into a corner in some way.

I'm a little concerned I'm getting caught up in a loop of 'enjoying work for work's sake' a little too much. Has anyone else experienced this?

IM doesn't have to be any different than what it is for people in regular jobs.
Manage your time properly and you'll be able to enjoy other things in life.

yeah... welcome in the digital addiction... where you sometimes doubt if you are doing the right thing or not...

this thread is for you :)

I am experiencing the same thing so I know how it feels.
Sometimes I think my life has become flat in the sense that I don’t feel excited about the things or interests that used to be my passion. This is similar to what you said about your playing the instrument.
I hope you will find a solution to break the routine of your present life. Good luck

Also, digital marketers must be very careful with social isolation... it can really make you become crazy and you can lose the sense of reality, I experienced it and it's awful.

It's a good thread, but I'm not sure if it's relevant. I'm not unhappy with the work I'm doing, nor am I chasing methods or looking for quick bucks.

"i lost the plot" from your first post made me think it could be.

Good to know you are happy with your journey.

Thanks. To clarify, my post was more about the fact that I'm getting a little too much dopamine from my work, and enjoying it a bit too much, to the exclusion of other aspects of my life - - so things I used to enjoy aren't all that interesting in comparison.
Not to take away from your post, btw, I really liked your post, but I'm not sure if it is something I personally resonate with.

Don't forget also that you grow up, and as we evolve we lose interest in things. So it's maybe not "because of digital marketing" but just you who has changed BECAUSE... you are older.

Well this its the way bro .Napoleon hill said in his book : Think and grow rich that you need to have an obsesion to be able to succed .Of you have an absesion you will do it no matter what ,and you will never give up

It's a good thing you stumbled upon the digital world which is so close to the musical niche. Most of the times, troubles (covid19) arrive with gifts. You were able to find the gift and, it worked out fine. I've not distanced myself from digital marketing for a while and, can't determine if am addicted or not; like not staying happy because I'm not able to access the internet. Things happened in the past, during the 2020 pandemic, I stayed offline for a long time, and realized that happiness also exists offline. Play with friends and family don't isolate yourself because you are addicted to this business of ours. As you are not into it for the sake of money they is no much reason not to go out for a love date with your loved one (girl) and make her happy, talk to her about IM too. It's fun trust me ladies wants to hear about that!

Napoleon Hill end up being a fraud and broke, I wouldn't quote him :D

If you enjoy it to the full extent, you're not technically working

In all honesty, I'm kind of struggling right now. I was away from IM for the last 5 years, had a great time working for a company (even though they paid me too little), travelling the world. Now I'm back to IM, been inside my house for the last 2 weeks (I live alone) and I am concerned. The only thing in my mind is IM... I have ADHD, so that makes it worse.
