Anyone used them to accept payments? I see lots of users complaining about blocked/closed accounts, unauthorized refunds, and the list goes on...
What is your experience?

Stripe is an industry-standard for collecting online payments.

Don´t fall for those stories, you need to dive deep into each case individually. Usually, when someone runs into issues with Stripe is mostly because they violated their TOS and are now complaining about the service because it´s far easier to do that than admit you´re taking advantage of their services to run a shady online business.

In fact, there are services that sell "Stealth" Stripe accounts or something like that so I wouldn´t be surprised if a large number of those people complaining were actually using one of those "Stealth" things.

My country is not listed as a supported country and I would NEVER go into "underground mode" and get a shady Stripe account as this can backfire for me pretty easily so, I just suck it up and find an alternative I can use.

What is the alternate one you use?

BHW uses them.

I do also and never had an issue.
Thank you for confirming:)

I can tell you from experience it is easy to get banned from stripe for stupid things.

I got banned once because I was trying to charge for membership on my forum (like jr vip), and they banned me because Invision power board had the option to buy a membership as a gift for someone else. I’m not even kidding. It was unbelievable.

I can’t say if they will keep your money or not as I didn’t even get to process one membership payment through them :/

They are looking more and more like PayPal, so beware.

As I said before, the ideal is to look for alternatives that take longer and want to get to know you BEFORE they start accepting payments.

The idea of creating an account on Stripe and start selling in an hour is great. But after a few sales they can simply ask for some documents, look at your website and say that your business model is high-risk (whether this is true or not) and block your money for a few months.

Prefer alternatives (Paymentwall, 2Checkout and several others, search shopify payment method list for example) that will accept or reject you BEFORE you start selling.

LIke all mainstream payment processors, stripe enforces it's policies very strictly. If you do or are planning to do any business which they consider a "restricted business" stop right away unless you want your money to be taken away.

If you are unsure whether your business falls under a restricted or prohibited business contact them. They should let you know

Check the rules here:

I believe they banned you on the basis of this:

"Sale of stored value or credits maintained, accepted and issued by anyone other than the seller"

Since someone would buy a membership plan for someone else, stripe considered that to be a "sale of stored value accepted by someone else". The "stored value" being the membership plan.
did you consult them before launching stripe on your platform?

I’ve used them a lot. You only hear the scare stories, they are the people that shout the loudest. It’s a good efficient service

It depends on what you are going to use it for and what country you are in. Stripe does not forgive mistakes

Im just going to put it like this: it would have been friendlier to simply say “disable that we don’t like it.” I think it’s stupid to just ban without any discussion for such a simple thing. But at the same time, I’m glad they did because I found a super cool processor that has very friendly helpful staff members.

It’s my opinion and always will be my opinion to skip stripe. But if they are working for people and people are happy with them, I’m happy for those people too.
