Not bad, you can always have the top 3 or 6 latest posts in the homepage to give an extra boost to those new posts ranking. Also it gives a good freshness if you put there some new posts frequently. In fact is one of the most recommended practices for effective niche pages All advantages if you do it right.

It will help you with your seo efforts, If it is a company or org website just create a section for a Latest post or Recent post.

i am from the old school where I still think keyword density matters. Because of this thinking, I don't use the latest post concept, because it could ruin my keyword density.
Instead of latest post, I have created section about most important posts. These are my other money pages on that site.
don worry, it wont damage ur homepage seo in fact is a good UI UX for your website visitors too, just ensure is mobile responsiveness

That's totally fine, but not too much. Max 3 for latest post is ok. Or your homepage will act more like a portal rather than a "static home page" with added fressness.
So
if yours are a blog type of thing, it's fine with many latest posts.
If yours are a company/niche home page type of thing, 3 or less latest posts are good.

I would focus more of my on-page SEO on the post names, whether you use contextual keywords and key parts of your articles.
Also, my main focus would be on search intent.
Every single piece of content on my site must deliver on the search intent behind the keyword that piece of content is targeting.
This is the ultimate form of on-page SEO.
Everything else is basically nickel-and-dimed detail work.
If you major in the minors, you would be playing a losing game when it comes to SEO.
