To be specific, what's the difference between http and https?

Http is talking to your friend in the middle of a party.

Https is you and your friend talking alone in a soundproof room
Hmmm, lovely. How can I hear what others are saying in the middle of the party if I wanted to?

I would like to add to this analogy a bit further.

Http is talking to your friend in the middle of a party.

But you don't want others to hear what you are talking with your friend.

So you get an unbreakable glass tube and fit one end to your mouth and ask your friend to put the other end to their ear. No one else gets to hear what you are saying.

That's https.

Http is like using your mobile phone to speak with someone (some other person may secretly intercept the call).
Https is like speaking with someone face to face in a closed room with no one else in the room (more secured).

yea kind of until you miss that one kid hiding in the same room doing a MiM attack listening to your conversation lol

We should start a series "explain like I'm 5" in this forum now :) love to see people chatting

Https is more secure than http because it encrypts the data being shared.

Imagine you are talking to a friend through your mother
You say something to her, and she says that to your friend, that's http.

Now imagine the same scenario, but before everything you would tell your friend a 'secret word', so he would know that this message is coming from you. For example, at the end of very sentence you would add 'you little shit'

So if he would receive a message saying 'yoo let's go out to play lil jimmy' - he would know that it's some pedo calling him out, because there's no 'you little shit' at the end.
That's the http(Secure)
