Reddit is a failed social media platform

I've been critical of Reddit before, but this time I'm pretty much convinced they're a failed platform.

For reasons. Among them:

• Up and down voting brigades are rampant on popular subs
• You can easily fool their system and how exactly it's done is all over the place
• The political bias is just too blatant. There's not even an attempt to keep it subtle
• Their user base has no purchasing power (get to front page and see how it converts)
• The concept of user-moderated communities is a tragedy (their concept of benevolent moderators sucks)

Just thinking out loud here.

I kinda think Reddit's pretty much bound to fail in the long run. What say you?

I prefer forums where a convo can keep going. Reddit, it just doesnt happen.

But if reddit goes, there is basically no other site with user-genedated content about every possible topic.

We have quora, but that site has become retarded too. Weird to navigate, and all the replied are mostly robotic polished up garbage, or just retarded garbage posted by subhumans.

I dont know. Is the internet bound to become just blog posts and marketplaces? Thats depressing.

I say you make some valid points with the larger, more mainstream subs yet when you get into more niche subs those problems ain't so prevalent IME. Fewer politics, less manipulation, better mods. Reddit is great IMO. I love r/algotrading and other niche investing/trading subs. The knowledge exchanged is excellent. I find we're able to have healthy and on-going conversations in these spaces. Venture off into the mainstream and you're right: it can be an absolute cesspit of the most retarded humans/robots imaginable, each vying for their agenda to rise to the top.

On purchasing power: if you target broke people you'll have issues... that ain't limited to Reddit though. Find the folks with money. They do exist on Reddit too

Reddit houses the majority of the far left. If you don’t blindly agree with any one of their little crusades, you’re downvoted to the floor and eventually banned from the subreddit.

A healthy discussion encourages both viewpoints to make a concise argument. That social media platform doesn’t encourage anything but yes-men to whatever they’re brigading for at that point in time.

Totally agree with you and that's why I was never a fan of Reddit either.

The bias (not only about politics) is just too damn crazy and aggressive. Then, as you said, there are these moderators of each subreddit...

That's why I said before: I believe it's a social experiment. They basically observe human behavior in groups and those who are in charge.

More than biasness their condescending nature of bullying is the problem. It was a genuinely good social platform till 2013-14

It's much worse platform for civil disucssion for people outside USA/UK.

Yes, but to be banned for minor opinion differences is damaging to that money making endeavor. You burn through accounts faster. Facebook & Twitter are slowly going in that direction as well.

I hate to be that guy, pal, but I give it 2 years tops.

I don't participate there but I do read the comments sections. They're all manipulated. Every response seems to be in line with a certain direction, both politically and technically too.

We discussed how much $$$ the girls are making there in a thread here a while ago. For sure their porn subs are making girls money. I doubt reddit itself is making any commissions tho (or are they?)

This makes sense. They do seem like a brainwashing thing. Some subs like world news are downright creepy, every single comment is in agreement.

Not true. If you feel a site as big as reddit is ‘failed’, then maybe it’s not for you.

As for the Draconian measures by the mods, maybe that comes, at least in part from higher up the chain of command. If I was the Mod for a sub with 1 million + members, i’m not going to risk any penalty just for one or two members, ‘right to free speech’.

The admin are the real aholes on reddit. If you stir up a sub which happens to be overlooked by an admin too, that’s when you get banned. And they don’t give a shit how many awards you got or karma you racked up... talking from experience.

You can make money on Reddit but they got a lot of anti-câptilists on that site that is why set my moderation on my subbreddits to very high.They are jealous of people making money and they hate the rich they also want to eat the rich also
