I know hundreds of such websites. All of them have been getting tons of traffic from Google for more than a year. Google would have deindexed the site for various other reasons. Everyone has their own assumptions, but only Google knows the real reason.

I thought you have a lot of Laptops and PCs and you use an auto-refresh plugin for instant traffic when i was a kid i do the same for my blog posts.
Did you bulk post (100k articles at once for example) or drip feed?

Looks like a churn and burn project to me. They'll most likely do the same thing again and again.

I can't really see how they were making the money. I assumed that they were using Mediavine or Ezoic ads but looking at the site bnow there are no ads anywhere. I must be missing something herelisbdnet.com is a huge site that using scraped PAA (People Also Ask) content.
The site was reportedly making $50,000 per month on ads.
This site has now been deindexed. Poof. Gone.
What were they doing?
- Scraping millions of PAA (People Also Ask) questions and answers
- Grouping them together into pages to rank. Posting the stolen content as-is.
- Autogenerated pages and on-page
- Embedding top 4 related YouTube videos per page.
- Monetized 100% with ads.

Anyways, it's a fun tale about doing very black-hat things on a very large scale. Some SEOs make a very good living doing this type of thing.
We don't do things like this, but it's still good to know what people are getting away with and what can rank, even for a short time.
They probably made at least a couple hundred thousand dollars from this, and I'm guessing it did not cost much at all to do.

The point was that it got deindexed from Google. He might still be riding out all the remaining traffic and make 30-40$/day.

Lol I wish, the domain in question was maybe doing 100k - 200k visitor per day.
I must specify though : my site wasn't Q/A site like everyone now is trying to make.
It was fully cloaked, completely bullshit markov generation with keywords that were made up. Another end of the stick technically, but it all comes down to manipulating google with content generation.

For example, for the 3 million UV/day you were getting, how much did semrush report you get? I'm curious how accurate they are when they approximate the monthly volume.
