Long term career plan

Hellow BHW,
I am from India and I am about to graduate with a computer science degree in August. Having no job in hand or any major interest towards programming, I want to switch fields and do something in the SEO world.

My idea is that I want to highly specialize in one skill and I am choosing SEO because that's something I'm interested in.

My first plan will be to learn as much as possible about SEO then implement my learnings in my websites and grow them. This will give me some experience and then I'll go job hunting, gain some experience and move forward.

My concern is that how will a SEO expert progress in career? My goal is to work with a top product based company like Amazon, Facebook etc. How much will I be making with 10+ years experience in this field?

There is no definitive answer to this but the sky is the limit, SEO is big biz and some companies spend millions per year, if you learn the ropes, study and implement, and have success with sites of your own, you can branch off to start an agency or service of your own once you are skilled and knowledge enough to charge clients, but how soon these results come has lots to do with your passion, the time you can commit, and how ambitious you are, all that said, best of luck.

Thanks for your response. The thing is that I want to work with a company or a startup initially so I can get some work experience under my belt. And ofcouse I'll be running my SEO business on the side.

Consider using LinkedIn to network or join one of the many freelancing sites to find clients and startups, these are great ways to get your foot into the industry door and trust me, little by little, you will learn lots along the way as you go along, the road is a long but rewarding and worthwhile one.
