[Journey] Building an iOS & Android App Empire

An Aspiring IOS dev here.

Currently learning swiftui, no prior programming experience, no BootCamp, no CS degree. It's been hectic and most times, I forget syntaxes easily, what to call and when. I'm just 1 month in, so no rush.

Any advice for me?
I also plan to switch to IOS development, can you share some resources for learning?

Learn as you go. Make use of templates and UI kits to reduce developing time. Don't get too obsessed with the details in the beginning. Develop an MVP (minimum viable product) of the app, publish it and see how it goes. In the end, the idea and the marketing is the most important. Make sure to integrate Firebase, Appsflyer and other analytic tools to check retention and usage of your app.

I started out with a quite basic app and just kept analyzing, added more and more functions, improved the interface and so on.

If you see your app doesn't do well or people are not interested in it, move on to the next project.

Thank you so much.

Hey @nakamura any updates? How many apps you have alive in total right now? How much are u making per day?
Hi, right now around 12 apps. 10 iOS apps and 2 Android apps. Working on more apps tho. Got covid before, was really sick...knocked me out for 6 days and afterward still had symptoms for a month...couldn't focus at all, feeling sleepy all the time and so on. However, getting back to normal now.

Since most of these apps are on iOS and Apple are no c*nts like Google and won't suddenly terminate accounts, the revenue is around $70-120 per day. Always depends on the day. On weekend its more for example. So far I didn't place any ads, but will probably do it later.

So the money I earn every day, I basically will use it for app promotions of some bigger projects and also for other business models (I am interested in Amazon FBA for example).

My plan is to make apps for Android and iOS in different niches. Later on I will give it a try with mobile games. I want to provide the users with the best possible quality, also in order to get a high retention. I am not going to make easy apps like Wallpaper downloads or something, but something more useful and meaningful.

My main motivation is NOT money. It is to build something sustainable. However, there is A LOT of money to make in the mobile/mobile gaming industry, it is not a secret. Some guys would say it is saturated, but I don't believe so. I just have to be better than the competition. I am willing to go this extra mile.

About me making apps so far:

I started from scratch on February 2020. I had no coding skills and was totally overhelmed with all the knowledge, coding stuff, etc. However, I managed to get the basics and improved step by step. Always learned something new on the way. It was all about getting into this mobile app industry, testing and making experience.

So far I made and monetized around 5 apps so far. I tested the limits, how far I can go until the apps get removed, and also how far I can go with the advertising. There are so many things to consider when making apps. Also, so far I made around $5k or more with apps.

What I got:

- Marketing skills
- iOS and Android developer account
- Ad network accounts
- Knowledge about the market, what I can do and what I shouldn't do (also in regards of Google and their policies)

How will you monetize the apps?

Through ads only so far. I don't plan to implement in-app purchases at this moment.

What ad networks are you going to use?

Admob (has the best eCPM from my experience), Facebook Audience Network/FAN and for some apps Appodeal mediation.

How will you make the apps?

With Swift, Java and for some I will use Flutter.

How will you drive traffic?

Through ads, SEO, social media, in-app ads and ASO

Will you use or do any Blackhat techniques/apps?

No, everything will be whitehat. I found Google has this "zero tolerance" approach on Apps and also on Adsense/Admob. They will directly delete/suspend your account/apps without any chance of reinstating. Basically they don't give a fuck. I don't wanna give them any chance to delete or suspend my account, therefore everything is going to be legit.

Please keep in mind: I don't want to make any apps or my niches public on here. I know many guys (especially in the app business) are copying, using some blackhat techniques or trying to damage/report each other. I want to prevent this from happening.
From where did you hire the developers, how much it cost for you?

When I was looking for a developer for the first time I tried freelancer platforms and LinkedIn. There is a mix of low quality and experts and prices vary a lot but the main issue is the trust with devs as they have the code and can steal it, they can just stop responding to you, etc. So I turned to local communities in my country and found quite qualified devs who speak my language and I can sign a contract and have more control and this works for me for last 2 years.

Did you had any success lately? What is your monthly net profit?

I run this as a side business as the income is quite passive.

I research carefully and when find an opportunity just hire the devs to build the app. It usually takes 3 to 10 months from start to finish and then it barely needs any additional work. I have 5 apps each of them make money every month. 100% white hat apps, 2 games and 3 tools. Going to start a new game based on these 2 - we will reskin it and add some new features.

Mostly Upwork. But most choose wisely. It lot of guys apply for any kinda job without really reading the job description. Also, you should be as detailed as possible in your job offer, so you won't into this type of "but sir you didn't write it in the description it will take longer than expected" guy.

How much I spend on development really depends on the task and how long I think it is going to take. You can also see their hourly rate and then you can come up with a one-time price by yourself. After all, they are applying for the job offer, so they are accepting the work and your price.

I didn't spend much on development tho. Most time I integrate the things I want by myself. If its more complex or I don't have enough time, I will just hire someone to get it done.
