Building Backlinks to Home or Sub-Pages

Hi all,

My site structure has a homepage with general content and information about the details of each main page (excluding blog), along with button links to those pages. I'm trying to rank for keywords on the subpages, specifically 2 out of the 5 main subpages. These pages are online tools, therefore, I have some content on them targeting the keywords, but I don't want to stuff the page with pages of content bc they're really web tools for visitors, not blog/article style posts and I'm not sure if it will look too attractive (each page has on average of around 200 keywords), explaining the features of the tools, while mentioning the keywords I'm targeting throughout.

I've been generally hitting the homepage for basically all of the keywords. But, should I mix it up and also run SEO campaigns and banklinking to the specific subpages for their respective keywords? I assume google will automatically rank the subpages even if the homepage has all of the backlinks. Would this give an advantage in ranking over someone who just targets the homepage for ALL keywords the site is trying to rank for and allow the SEO to pass through automatically? In addition, I think it might look more natural also. Just looking for some advice on the best strategy from the pros on the forum!

Always mix the profile and make it as complex as possible. This also means linking to multiple pages, and not just the homepage. It will look more natural. You always want to go for the more natural backlink profile.

Regarding backlinks, what I see SEO firms that I am in touch with recommend is:
First campaign build backlinks to homepage and the following campaigns a mix of homepage and important sub pages.


In my case, I am building 80% of my backlinks to my subpages as my homepage is not my main target to rank.

Naturally the home page gets more links their inner pages. They way I do is I try to build as much links as possible to the home page. Then run campaigns for inner pages.

Generally, I will build backlinks to my internal pages that talk about specific topics.

And then one of those links will go to my home page when I'm talking about my niche as a whole.

But I do that rarely.

Instead, I focus on interlinking pieces of content within the same category.

This goes a long way in showing Google the proper context for viewing my content.

This works wonders.

The name of the game when it comes to maximizing the impact of the backlinks you're buying or building is internal linking.
