I’d probably have done the same thing as Will, but it would have been to protect Chris because if my wife went up herself, it would get much worse haha.
True. Chris definitely crossed the line.
Also for what it’s worth I’m pretty sure that wasn’t staged, I don’t think Chris us good enough at acting to pull off the speechless shock post-slap.

Finally i can assault comedians for jokes i dont like. Thank you will smith.
And by the way, if it was real, total bitch move. Walked up to chris with no indication that he was gonna get physical. No swinging arms, no cussing and screaming, no pointing fingers, no push first and hit second.
Because i could live with it a little better if will smith had indicated that he was mad walking up to chris. Then you know what time it is and if a punch or a slap comes your way, well, you should have been prepared to defend your self and maybe even hit back instantly.
But the way this was done, total sucker punch, will smith can suck my beeeeeeep

The thing is, family is off limits.
Make any jokes, appropriate or not about the person (all good as we do that with those we know and love), but don't touch the family.
I deserve, and welcome comments about me in settings like that but leave my family out of that.
Chris Rock is a funny dude but he went past the line there.

If they were friends, which they most likely are, probably not.
I don’t get why people think just because you’re a comedian you’re allowed to insult people, especially since she was probably self conscious about her looks/condition.

Ion know, the last time he was roasting everybody. Much different than only going after one person, especially if that person has a medical condition, it doesn’t matter if it’s not a very bad condition. It’s something you can’t change.

It's not, but it's not the point either, most jokes are insulting in one way or the other, nobody ever cared.
And since we all about giving positive example to the world - he would set better example with a lawsuit than a girly slap.
Making a joke is fine, hitting someone in a face is an assault, and persecuted by the law.

My initial and still current thought is that it was PR stunt worthy of Ryan Holiday back in the American Apparel days.
Let's see, Will Smith gets nominated for an award nobody cares about, is at a ceremony nobody cares about, for a movie nobody cares about. Chris Rock is probably planning to out on tour this year (just guessing).
Now, thanks to the bitch slap heard 'round the world, they both get, along with the movie academy, millions in free viral PR!
As for the "hit", and maybe I'm dating myself, but it's called a "bitch slap". Do you know who you bitch slap? Your friends! We used to do it all the time, and still do, and you always go full force. Do you know what you do if you're really pissed? You punch, choke, or deck them head first!
However, if Will Smith really slaps people when he's really going after them then that's all you need to know about him.
