Hello Guys,

I'm a bit rusty on my SEO skills, so here's the situation.

I have my homepage where I'm trying to rank for the main keyword lets say its ''residential proxies''.

Then I also have a /all-locations page which has 150 countries, I started creating individual pages for each location where 80% of the content is the same as on the others, and I just put some unique data about each country like the Population, GDP and so on. My competitors are doing the same and ranking pretty nicely for geo specific keywords like ''romania residential proxies'' , ''hungary residential proxies etc''

On our competitor's websites those location specific pages also have like 80-90% duplicate content inbetween them with a tiny bit of unique information about each country.

Should I build backlinks to each country page individually, or just build backlinks to the /all-locations directory which links out to each country specific page?

First of all, I'll make sure my site is optimized (before anything else), and you don't have errors in GSC, etc. You must also pay attention to the site speed.
I would also apply the things mentioned here (with your own adaptations): https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/method-increase-traffic-w-simple-hack.1393907/

Second, for the content:
Even duplicate content (dup is not plagiarism, by the way) is not affecting SEO, I would increase the original content/country ratio. Let's say you already have 500 words (the dup content) on the page. Make sure you add at least 300-500 words for that specific location. You should also spin the first paragraphs, and adapt the keywords for each country apart.

Third, the backlinks:
- I would add a mix of international backlinks (to the homepage) and a few local backlinks for each country (Hungary local backlinks for my Hungary page).
- I would point out some links to local authority sites from my site (to the Chamber of Commerce of Hungary, Gov links, Wikipedia, and so on). Make sure these links are relevat and helpful for your audience.

Fourth:
I suppose you're using WPLM for translating the content for each page. If not, and you do it manually, make sure you insert the hreflang tags for each page.
Don't forget to interlink. It is very important, and people just forget about it and focus on getting more and more (mostly spammy) links.

Cheers!

I appreciate the feedback, the pages aren't actually translated, they are in English.

Let me give you an example of what our competitors are doing:
https://litport.net/locations/europe/hungaryhttps://litport.net/locations/europe/bulgaria
As you see the content is basically the same, the only unique thing is the population, city names and ASNs. I went one step further and added GDP data, official currency and 2-3 other small things. I was wondering what else I can add for more unique content? Obviously I can't write 150 x 500 words unique paragraphs about residential proxies in each country, but I could maybe add some history/economics related information about each country?

The point is to provide a better experience than the existing one. If a competitor can rank only with dup content, I suppose you will rank better with more factual information. Regarding the language, I would create (at least) two languages: EN and local language. In the case of Switzerland, there will be 3 languages: EN, DE and FR.

You can add GDP, GDP per capita, minimum wage, historic facts, places to visit, and so on. Make sure if you include stats, to point to the right source (gov agency of the x country, etc).
