Obviously, I prefer d0follow but I also have plenty of n0follow links naturally.
I'd say a good mix is a must.

A no-follow backlink, but contextual and with relevant traffic, counts more than a dozen of do-follow backlinks, but non-contextual and without any traffic (not sayin' with fake metrics). Of course, a relevant do-follow backlink, with traffic and nice metrics, is the most wanted one.

If I'm paying for a backlink, I always prefer a follow link but if I get it free, I don't care which way it follows.

While Importance of of no follow links have been debated since a long time ago, I prefer a mix of mix of do follow and no follow. Every link to be do folllow is a red flag, specially if you are building links on autopilot.

IMO, a mixture of both links are beneficial to the website. Also it depends on your competition too, but a mixture of both links should do you well. Spam and poor links are not recommended in this section.
