Is Geopolitics worthy it as a Niche topic?

I'm pretty new to Blogging and I picking a niche topic to write about is easily becoming a nightmare.

I love Geopolitics as a whole so writing about it is not a problem at all, problem is: Competition.

I've done some research on that and it seems that most keywords are sazonal (wars, elections etc) and are tied to mainstream news coverage. Basically, if a major conflict breaks out, I'll be competing against the likes of BBC and CNN for the top 10 ranks.

Any idea on how to avoid said competition?

Hyper-niche in a specific region. Focus on something specific, like Central Asia or Ukraine (kinda like what Peter Frankopan did in his recent book "The New Silk Roads" - - one of my favourite recent reads on geopolitics). Plenty of drama in every part of the world these days, so there's no lack of content.

I'm planning to cover the history of geopolitics as a whole (a way to introduce my blog into the niche) and then focus on specif topics, such as the geopolitcs of European countries (my target audience) and Brazil (my native country) . I'm plannig to creste special topics such as "geopolitcs in videogames" but only time (and Analytics) will tell if it's a good idea.

By the way, any recommendations on where I can get that book?

Itll be hard to do a website that does EU and Brazil, you're better off either doing a site for Geopoliticss in general, or Geopolitics in one region.

your whole plan sounds like an insane amount of writing will be necessary to have a small chance of it taking off. after all, you are competing with newsletters and professionals in this niche. Are you sure you are up for such an amount of work with no guarantees of results?

This reminds of April 2020, I came across a COVID + Geopolitics blog with a twist. It would have spun articles, mostly about some political mishandling or the other regarding the lockdown, and then it would end every article with a variation of the following:
In these uncertain times, it's natural to feel anxious or depressed. However, many people are successfully coping with the situation by buying alcohol online, whether its by purchasing whiskey online, or even ordering vodka on the internet.

I thought it was an interesting way to turn a geopolitics/COVID blog into a PBN

Well, I've seen a fair share of blogs ranking very well when looking for not-so-trendy topics, like past conflicts on Asia, for example. Thing is: MOST modern conflicts seem to be a no-go due the insane amount of Mainstream coverage. Still, some blogs (well-known ones though) manage to rank well regardless of mainstream competition. I fell like the topic themselves, mostly niche ones, are the real goldmine.
