To become an authority, then yes, that would be great if you could get unique products to review. However, maybe you can volunteer at your local biking shop in exchange to review some of their bikes that come in every month?

You can create a mountain biking niche blog. Then, for your target audience, create various guides, tutorials, and product reviews. Ads and affiliate offers can be used to monetize your blog. You're asking an SEO forum so you're going to get told to do SEO. It's a bit like asking a crack dealer if you should do crack. Starting a profitable mountain bike niche site takes a different skill set than just knowing the niche and it's a whole lot slower than a YouTube channel.

Speaking of crack - I know mountain bikers. They're wired with the same kind of addiction climbers are and I dread to even think how much watch time I have of other people's climbing channels. There's a hungry market for this content.

You can always start doing informational and review content further down the line if you wanted to but content creation isn't limited there. Entertainment content can be easier to make, still gets ad revenue and you get to go outside and play and call it work.

If you start a niche site you're up against people like me who run niche sites for a living. It's a lot easier for me to learn about mountain bikes or hire someone that can talk about them than it is to hire someone with years of experience in content marketing. I'm not saying a hobbyist can't create amazing content and beat out the generic affiliate sites out there - but it's going to be a slog.

Entertainment content can be easier to produce and while a mountain biker might only Google 'best mountain bike for short legs' once every few years, they might well watch every single one of OP's videos.

I will recommend you make something more complex but my bring you the best results. First make a channel on youtube and start a site about your passion. Make sure you interlink your channel with site so you can bring traffic to website. Then on website you can create a store to dropship some mountainbike accesories or even bikes or so. You drive the traffic from youtube to your site/store and you can make a lot more than just via youtube earnings. just my idea

Exactly. You don't even need to show your face or talk to the camera if you don't want to. Stick the camera on the front of the bike and go do what you enjoy doing. Pick up the go-pro second hand and your risk is pretty minimal.

Spend some time (if you haven't already) watching what other creators in your niche do and what works well for them. Do they edit parts of the ride? Do they narrate over it? Do they just talk to the camera?

Another random one I pulled up:

18.5 million views and the guy is just doing his thing and talking to the camera as he does it. Of course, not every MTB YouTuber is going to get millions of views but it's going to be a lot easier to do compared to trying to start a niche site and a whole lot more fun.

Replicate what other content creators are doing but add your own thing to it. You don't need to be a pro for people to watch you on YouTube. Just be into the sport and post consistently. If you take a little time to edit the longer content down, post that same content to places like TikTok and IG and you can speed the process up a bit.

Keep your expectations realistic. My signal is being crap right now so I can't pull up that channel but I'm willing to bet if you scroll back his first video was posted years ago.

Figure out what the niche wants, be consistent with your uploads and once you've got a little practice you can start promoting yourself on groups, subreddits and forums to try and get the ball rolling faster.
