Backlinks from forums and profile creation sites

They don't do any good to any domain whether they are related or not.
There is no SEO value in those anymore other than to have some variety in your backlink infrastructure but they will not help you rank.

Thank you. What kind of backlinks would you suggest for a domain selling mattresses then? I could start blogging next to my shop. Is it worth it?

That can work as long as it is of quality. I recommend you to send from time to time some backlinks from domains with a high DA and above all quality backlinks.

You should be adding content to your site so blogging is a good idea. You can see what your competitors are writing about to get an idea for topics.
As for off-page you'll want to get some guest posts and/or niche edit from reputable sellers. And depending on your experience with SEO creating your own PBN

profile backlinks consider the less impact and less risk on backlinks building.
IMO, a matress seller like you might possible have multiple hobbies, let's say you like anime and you participate a lot anime related site/forum, in your profile, you put in who you are, putting in your mattress's website as you are the owner of your biz. This is very common sense in my opinion. Hence I don't find it an issue to do so.

A backlink from a page that's already ranking for the target keyword helps the most. Some totally unrelated profiles or comments won't help you in anyway. The forum links might help if they can get you some quality traffic.

What if that word is in another language. Say, I want to rank for "mattress" and the page I want to get a backlink from ranks for its, say, Spanish counterpart - "colchón"?

forum comments aka joining discussions on forums and linking to your website in your comment.
I try to find threads related to the niche even if the overall forum isn’t the same.
Example, a car forum still has a section on lawyer advice or web design etc

The relevant links from other languages work but they'll influence your rankings in that region. If you're targeting global audience, then it's fine. But if you're targeting local audience, then it's better to avoid other language backlinks.

I noticed on afrefs that some website (the same niche) that has much more backlinks and from more powerful domains than mine was ranked DR2.4 and mine 4 but most of my links are from my niche even though I have a lot of links from directories (DR 0) and SS is 7. Any thought, please?
