I have a client that has been around for years in his city, going by XXXXX.com with more than 35 citations, lots of on page SEO, and the other usual tricks. Address and phone numbers are in the page headers and footers. For the keywords and phrases in his industry he is number 1 organic results and number 1 map pack.

Now they opened a second location in a second city 100 miles away. Before putting in the work, I wanted to get opinions for best practices. Here are some options as I see them.

Option 1
keep XXXXX.com, create CITY2.XXXXX.com and use a different header and footer with second city details. then create new citations for the CITY2.XXXXX.com

Option 2
Create CITY1.XXXX.com and CITY2.XXXX.com, same as above, but redirect XXXX.com to CITY1.XXXXX.com

Those ideas are the most obvious that I can think of.

Eagerly awaiting thoughts and ideas

William Jones mentions in his YouTube videos that you should only have one GMB embedded per website.

Which makes sense… your on page SEO should be optimized for the city that you are targeting.

What does he say as to inner pages when it comes to that?

He mentions creating inner pages for different cities if you service them, but he doesn't want you to embed more than 1 google business profile / google maps location into each website.

So its okay for Plumber NYC to have inner pages targeting nearby cities, but if plumber NYC all of a sudden opens a branch in Texas, then don't put Plumber NYC + Plumber Texas google map embeds on the same website.

I don't know his reasoning behind it but I'd assume he has experimented with it before.

I would not mind seeing someone do a full out test study on this as there are conflicting opinions.

In fact I'm going to initiate that somehow as I'd love to know for sure and I'd love for the other members to know as well.

Good call.
