Idiots using paypal

From my experience with Cloakfish 3-5% of the people paying through paypal are scammers.
They either steal money through dispute or use a stolen paypal account.
So after all most people are honest, if you make business you have to acceppt getting scammed or better stop business at all.
Don't want to ignore it ? If the selling itself was legal you can go to a court and file charges.
Backup the untouched logfiles on the webserver, backup all emails. Try scrape the details from the stuff (ip addresses, times, useragent, etc).
You can't even know if that guy was not using a stolen account, it's more likely than that he started that dispute as a dispute like that also harms his reputation. Paypal probably kicks your ass if you regularly file such charges as it becomes obvious you are scamming people.
Of course the responsible guys for fraud testing are mainly well trained monkeys, it might take a while until they realize it.

I had that problem too. I was told to go to the resolution center and plead my case but there wasn't even a reason given for the charge back just that it was under investigation from PayPal and I couldn't even plead my case.
I contacted them but got no response.
So, I lost out.
Sucks, but since I was selling on a forum, I posted the Guys real name and paypal ID on it so the other sellers could beware this guy.
Worst part is that if he had asked for a refund, I would have just given it to him.

I've been using Paypal for 10 years now, and have certainly run into issues. It is worth noting though, that buyers protection only coveres physical goods - virtual goods are not covered via this policy. I recent had someone try and do a charge back through their credit card company for a membership site subscription, I provided all the relevant information, and the result was that they found in my favour.

Thought they can refund just anything even "other services" if the buyer's complaining loud enough?

i would contact paypal and ask them what can be done. maybe epass is a better option? who knows anymore...

I would advice about making the transaction imply something legal at official level and from paypal perspective... eg, you're selling nice and sweet text editor software, not shady cookiestuffing scripts that can ban you from eBay (and Paypal) just for being in contact with people who code them (in fact, there is a thread about one guy being banned fro eBay & PP just for being member here).
Aside considering better payment channels as suggested above (some that don't allow slick tricks), you can take as model the way they make you pay on this forum
(membership model, so if you chargeback you lose the product; also well covered and rebranded as "something else" in the checkout)

PayPal has some good points as well. They have API they have IPN and so on. So its really good if you wish to automate some payment processing. But yeah this chargeback thing is really annoying.
