Better McDonald than IM

Yesterday the topic of the day was the leak of the Twitch earnings for the streamers.

After reading opinions on various forum on my country, most of the people agreed that it was better to work at McDonald's than to be a IM/streamer.

Among the main reasons peple expressed:
- The work is too volatile, one day you may have it and the other not anymore. Working at McDonald's is safer.
- Only 0.1% of the most successful streamers ended up on that list, achieving the same level of success is not guaranteed as well as being difficult. Furthermore, taxes must be removed from those figures, which are about 45%. They are left with a good salary for sure, but nothing worth pursuing. By working at McDonald's, you may have a lower salary than top streamers, but certainly faster and safer. And higher than average streamers.
- If you lose everything, you risk to find yourself at 30-40 years old without work experience, risking to end up living under a bridge

The question is how risk averse you are and how fulfilling it is for you to be a streamer or internet marketer compared to working at McD.

If unstable income makes you worried sick, e.g. because you have a family to support, or if you aren't really cut out for business but only got lured in by some gurus who promised you unrealisitc results, better get a stable job somewhere.

If the idea of a stable 9 to 5 job at McD or wherever makes you want to jump out of the window, if you don't stress out too much about a volatile income, if you love streaming or being a marketer, give it a go because in the end only your personal happiness matters.

It's a decision everyone has to make for himself. I know some one who made good money over a long time as an entrepreneur (SAP specialist), but when he got older he switched to a comfy office job as an employee because it got too stressful for his liking. On the other hand I also know several people who had very well-paid and comfy jobs working for the government or big enterprises who risked everything by starting their own businesses because they couldn't stand the fact anymore that they were working for other people instead of for themselves.

It's all about your character and your goals.

I saw the twitch leak, and after having a look at it, I think without going on camera I could take a go at doing some comedy bs gaming like Limmy. Combine that with my existing gaming videos I upload to youtube sometimes, and I might get onto the next data leak!

Point is, you have to dedicate your time extensively in each online earning area, which includes twitch, teepublic, amazon affiliate, Adsense, etc.

well you can always do twitch streaming your job at mcdonald..
anyway i belive this covid teach people that there is no such thing as stable income. when shit happen you got fired and lost it all. or not fired but got no wages, cut 90% 50% well depend on wher you live.
At least starting your own. you have more control, and as the project succed and grow you got a big pump on the earning, contrary to those promised stable job, so stable that no matter how company grow bigger your wage just stay flat.. but when company go bankrupt those stable job illusion will goes away with it.

Why not McDonald's AND IM (internet marketing) ? Many people have a main hustle and a side hustle, but that is for people with a "fire in the belly". Many people start with a main hustle (brick & mortar) and a side hustle (internet marketing) and gradually learn and scale up the side hustle (internet marketing) and give up the main hustle (brick & mortar) for internet marketing and they make good money. One must be ready to grind, one must have goals, put in the hours, work hard & work smart, cut out all the noise, friends, etc, stay super duper focussed.

IM is a high risk and high profits career option. The offline businesses also have same level of risks like IM. I'd also suggest a regular job for anyone who doesn't have much aspirations in life and want a secure job.

1) Even if everything I build fell down tomorrow and that includes all the ways I could diversify my income. I could still get a job at McDonald’s. Nothing lost and when the volatility goes in the other direction, I make a month of McDonald’s in a day.

2) Yes. Most people fail at IM. I’d say the ones who make it don’t see that as a bad thing. If someone’s happy flipping burgers then I’m happy for them, I’m happy with the challenge of IM.

3) 30-40 years work experience at McDonald's qualifies you to work in McDonald’s. Living under a bridge for 30-40 years would qualify you as well.

I tend not to argue with people like this. What I do carries risk, but so does relying on a single employer or career path. At least this way you can make more money and invest in more diversity.

Wow. OP I think you don't understand who you really are as a professional.
Most of us are marketers, programmers and god knows what else.
This type of people are a miracle when hired. On this forums you have a lot of people which we can refer to as C-level.
Everyone seeks us, but they can't have us.
I think we know too much to work at McDonald's.
I mean, SEOs get $6 - $7k on monthly paycheck in the US.

I would prefer to live under the bridge than do something that makes no sense and is not even perceived as good by the society.
If you are doing IM, you have much more respect from people.

Working at McDonald's is the dirtiest you can get. It's being trapped inbetween fear, anxiety, uncertainty and own delusional perception of the world.
You must be delusional if you really think working at McDonald's makes sense. In any scenario, maybe expect getting out of jail for a month. But that's just an exception you make once in a lifetime.

Look at this from a perspective of a monk for example. How interesting is this to work at McDonald's vs how interesting is this to spend 30 days in the forest or the monastery?
There are people who are willingy becoming homeless and they don't complain. This is the problem. The society has gone somewhere where it shouldn't be.

Let me get in the way because I like to do that since I just have hard time looking at people constantly using this limited perspective of what IM or career is.
IM lets you do freelancing and everything else you have on the internet. You can easily setup a company and start sending CV as a company. You will quickly land a job for SEO or programming position.
So where do you see it going wrong with great proven track record and big portfolio of high quality projects and products?

The real money comes with paid promotions like ad a new game, software & hardware brands, peripherical brands etc

Well, I don't even know where to start... so I am to keep it very short.

The thing is, the Internet is vast. It is huuuuuge, and it encompasses literally MILLIONS (if not billions) of ways to make a living. You can "internet market" every-freakin-thing. Plus, it is what you make it to be. You can make zero dollars (duh), or you can make a million a week.

How the hell this is even remotely comparable to a Micky D's job is out of my realm of understanding.

I use to earn same amount of money as a bank clerk from 2009 until 2014 and then Amazon came banging up with its 'Amazon Associates' webpage for Google Search term "affiliate programs" and my journey of website investments was killed by Amazon. Another death after Google killed SEO with Panda and Penguine algo updates.
For me its sure better to work at McDonalds than be a Internet Marketer.
