Facebook Domain Stolen

Facebook services spanning Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook itself have been shut down following an attempt to hijack the company’s domain name.

There has been a widely reported inability to access the services since Monday afternoon after a yet to be identified hacker nuked the DNS A; an address file that holds an IP address of the domain name and AAA records for Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.

Earlier the company had tweeted about WhatsApp, saying, “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.”

The main domain of Facebook company: Facebook.com is now available for purchase.

Details of the hack are yet to unravel.

doesn't make sense, if it was only that the DNS records got deleted after a hijack attempt, then it would have been fixed by now.
also DNS hijacking doesn't work that way, the DNS records won't be deleted...
there was someone posting on reddit that it was a BGP issue (which could also be a hack, but thats a completely different type of attack).

guys this is due to technical reasons, some providers are checking DNS only to see if a Domain is available. Right now facebook.com doesn't resolve so on some websites it is marked as available. Of course you can't purchase it because it's still active:

like i said its a BGP issue (according to someone claiming to work on the issue with fb on reddit) and facebook is its own registrar, so all their domains will appear as non existant and won't resolve via DNS.
even if you would be able to register facebook.com, their lawyers would take it back from you faster than you could host a site on it lol

Facebook fucked their dns server up,
They connected a user to the dns of the website by mistake and when the user changed settings fucked everything dns related up.
So yes it dns related, will be solved soon.

Yeah, someone said the Taj Mahal monument is also now available for purchase and I was so happy, I reached there very fast, with my chequebook and the manager of the Taj Mahal monument told me that what I heard was nonsense. Now, I am so confused.
