Well Gee, Thanx Madonna

It is really frustrating!

Shit like that drives me insane. Think about how many people in the world are dying of starvation. (20K kids every day)

You don't even have to look outside of the US. Now that is something that we could easily end...if people got together and made a real concerted effort.

Religious or not...it's a SIN! :(

you're comparing apples with oranges.

we're talking about 100k+ dead plus thousands more lives effected in the course of 10 seconds. mass graves dug to bury men, women, and children. kids that don't know where their parents are, parents that don't know where their kids are. lives destroyed in a matter of 10 seconds.

W/out going into details, i give on a regular basis to different causes... it's not much, but i give what i can...i know of the poverty exists in the world, i'm not saying that it is insignificant.

but then really catastrophic events happen like this earth quake, or katrina, or the 2004 tsunami....just make you want to tear your eyeballs out.

i have elected not to donate (directly) because of all the gov't corruption. what i plan to do is donate to some small mission trips so people can go down there and actually help in the up-coming months. like my sister went with a bunch of nursing students 2 weeks ago to work at the orphanages in russia. they really made a big difference to about 50 disabled kids. i would rather make a big impact on a smaller number of people then line the pockets of a corrupt gov't. you guys should consider doing that too. if there are churches in your area planning mission trips soon contribute to that and you know exactly what the money is going for.

I can't believe so many people here have the nerve to judge donations amounts like this. Then again, there are plenty of failures here...

It's typical failure mentality.

Blindly criticize "rich people" for everything they do.

Meanwhile, Madonna's piss has probably helped more people than these "failures" ever will.

some of you just don't get it....

it's ok

A little about Madonna's donations:

"Her Raising Malawi Organization has raised millions and built orphanages and schools in Africa. She has been matching donation to this charity, dollar for dollar. Not to mention the millions she has donated to AIDS charities and countless others."

She has been matching millions of dollars...

All I have to say. Late.

Net worth doesn't always means cash, includes property also. How many will sell property to donate?

It's smart considering that most of the money will not reach where it's supposed to reach + she will probably do more later in the rebuilding.

But i do think she owes me more than a mil for the health of my ears (and eyes). And i just had to bless this thread with this video.

Don't get me wrong here, i have no issue w/Madonna's charity work and not criticizing her as a person. A lot of people here just took it that way. I've probably been a Madonna fan since before nearly half of you have been born. Just because you are critical of a person's actions doesn't mean you are critical of a person as a whole.

when Madonna started her humanitarian work in Africa years ago, many people laughed and just said she was doing it for publicity. However, i really admired her for her efforts. I usually tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. In fact, a part me is hoping that maybe there was an error in the initial report and they left out an extra zero ;) Or maybe it's just the start of something more.

Those of you criticizing me: You are right. She can give whatever she wants. Of course she doesn't have to. Nobody has to give to anything to any one....but i have a right to comment in this case because like i said, i give people the benefit of the doubt, she wants the world to see her as a humanitarian

personally, I think that when you want the world to see you as a humanitarian it's kinda sad when people/celebs worth less give more. i honestly couldn't help but be surprised when people like Angelina Jolie and Sandra Bullock gave more than she did. And these celebs also give and contribute regularly to charitable organizations as well....

what happened to the people in haiti is an extenuating circumstance, a mega catastrophe.... you honestly don't know how grateful and guilty I feel that I wasn't down there when it happened....grateful that me and my family is safe....guilty that others are living one of my worst nightmares and guilty that I can't do/give more than i can/have.

for some of you, 250k USD is a lot of money. For a catastrophe like what happened last week, 250k is nothing....for somebody like Madonna, 250k is nothing. i'm not saying Madonna should shoulder the entire cost by ANY means....but for an international star, icon, humanitarian such as Madonna, it wouldn't have hurt her to dig a *little* deeper.

but your right, she doesn't have to give anything....but you can't argue that i have a right to voice my opinion. She's the one who announced how much she donated....and it was reported in news.....it's not like i pried into her personal finances and am airing out her laundry.

no disrespect to the lady, in fact she's known for her criticisms and voicing her opinions as well....it was Madonna who criticized Angelina Jolie for her efforts in Africa... if Madonna can criticize Angelina Jolie for building orphanages in Africa, I can criticize Madonna for donating so little to the devastation that occured in Haiti..... :P

honestly, had she kept the info private i really wouldn't have said a word. In fact, i probably wouldn't have given it a second thought if she'd just said, 'i donated.' and left it at that.

anyway, i'm sure a few of you still won't understand where i'm coming from....but like i said, that's ok. :D

Just continue to think "small picture." :D
