How are PBN's even Viable?

People are buying quality, topically relevant domains for anywhere between $300 - $2000, then they have to build a whole site with content. Just to send 1 backlink to a website? Isn't that a loooot of investment for one getting one good link?

Or am I missing something?

One homepage link from equally strong website may cost that or more per year. And there would be more links to other websites..

No, a PBN would also link to other resources online. Much like for any of the pages on your money site that you may link out to say, Wikipedia, YouTube etc, a PBN would also do this. It's a big investment setting up a PBN which is why quality link placements cost a bomb, but they can be well worth it in the long run.

For me, a PBN is a money site. You would treat it as such. In fact, for any of my tier 1 links that I build, I treat them as though it's content that's going onto my main site.

Tier 1 is a link the first set of links that go to your money site.
If you had set up a backlink in Reddit that goes directly to your website, that's tier 1. Generally speaking, you want these to be high quality and you don't want it to be spammy. In this case, steer clear of blog comments.
Tier 2 links are set up on sites which link to your tier 1 properties. These can be slightly spammier links such as the blog comments mentioned above.
Tier 3 links are those that link to tier 2. These could be GSA blasts which are linked to your blog comments in tier 2.

Carefully yes, and remember if the PBNs are set up correctly they can earn organic traffic
and keep gaining in value in the form of content, domain, age, and so forth.

It's an asset kinda like land where the value doesn't drop if you farm it right.

Some people prefer PBNs because they give a control over the content and link which the guest posts don't provide. For example, there are some tricks like expanding or rewriting your content to cover more keywords, which can be easily applied to PBNs. But as far as guest posts are concerned, you lose control once you publish the article. Same is the case with most other links.

If you were building links to the pbn, I would suggest other links such as Reddit and not spammy ones. Effectively, treat the PBN as a money site.

you can start a PBN also with fresh domains, you just have to promote them properly then it works well too.
also you can use them as direct money sites aside of being part of your PBN so you get extra traffic.
either cloak them all to a main money page, or use them for advertising.
