I can't access some websites after PC restart

Strange. Your best option would be to call your ISP and explain them your issue.

Did you play around with your hosts file or something like that?

Open this with Notepad: c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

And check if everything is set correctly.
Is definitely ISP DNS issue.

He can test for sure with this way.

If his phone have different services provider from the PC internet .

Follow this Steps .

Hotspot his phone with the PC and try to access the websites with this different internet provider, If is working you just find your issue ;)

@tazarbm

@tazarbm - all kidding aside, what happens if you use a different device on the same internet? do you have access to the sites that you are having issues with your pc?
if only I had another device.... I've got a rusty laptop thrown in somewhere (I wonder if it's still working...) but by the time I clean that laptop, power it on and make it work Monday will probably come and I will have solved the issue by then :)

Reinstall either Chrome or Firefox and check if everything works fine. If it's related to appdata, your sites should load fine after reinstall and you know the problem. Otherwise it could be a serious problem.
I don't think my poor computer can withstand chrome's resource eating and besides, using Brave, Firefox and Edge solved nothing, so probably Chrome won't solve anything either.

And since I mentioned Firefox, yeah... I just remembered that I had it installed on my computer from ages ago (as soon as I fired it up it prompted me to upgrade, so it's pretty old :) ) and I tried with Firefox and the same websites didn't work, either.

Now, about that "serious problem"... what kind of serious are we talking about? The type of serious where I need to back everything up, format the HDD and reinstall everything from scratch, or the kind of serious that means calling my ISP? Cause if it's the latter, I have no problems with it, but if it's the former.... God help me!

I double-checked the hosts file and I saw nothing unusual there. But then again, I don't know what I should have seen in there anyway, I just followed step #3 in this tutorial:

I don't have internet on my phone, but I'll see if I can find someone around me to lend me their phone to do it :)

It must be your ISP then. You should just call them up and explain what's happening. They'll send out a technician to your house if needed. Will be faster than trying everything we tell you on here :D

they don't work on Sundays. And I can't do anything about it anyway because my internet is provided by a company and I have no say in this. I just get it for free and I can't be too pretentious about it, so I have to wait until tomorrow when they come to the office (they have their office in our villa) and talk them into calling the ISP.

I've got no one around me that can do that and even if I could borrow someone else's router networking is alien language to me. Been struggling with it for decades and it just won't catch on to me. Also, my internet is provided on the sides by a company that is having the offices here in our villa (it's a long story, so don't ask), and even if I could do something about it (although I'm clueless like I said) I am still not allowed to touch that router / switch without their permission and today is Sunday so I won't be able to do anything about it until tomorrow morning..... Reasons, reasons, reasons.... but all of them true

you're the 2nd guy that says the word "virus" and nowadays this word gives me shivers to be honest.... especially since I've not used an AV for years now, so this could actually be real :(

I did try with firewall disabled but it still didn't work. So, DNS (whatever the hell that is), IP or virus issue. I can't see what else could be the problem

I just did this (twice) in step 1 of the link provided by the other member, and it didn't solve anything

I pinged 3 websites (mail.yahoo.com, one of my websites, and pornhub.com) and you can see in the attached screenshot that these 3 websites returned OK statuses (I assume)
This means the ips are resolving just fine. Definitely something to do with the browser, and not your network itself. Try disabling all extensions and try opening those sites in a private tab. If they open fine, reset the chrome profile/reinstall chrome.

If you think ISP, proxy, or internet connection is the problem, you can check it by accessing these sites from another device like mobile phone. If it's your computer, then it's not easy to identify the specific issue without running a lot of tests. I said serious in the sense that it's difficult to identify. Windows troubleshooting doesn't help much if something stops working. You should take a backup before proceeding. At least, keep a backup of important files. First identify the problem, then you can think about the solution.

nope, they still don't work. What do you mean by "resetting the profile"?

since there are specific sites (still picked at random, apparently) that won't get accessed but everything else works fine I think the issue is one of cookies - browser - access related. So, I don't think I need to reinstall anything (wishful thinking). But yeah, I'm gonna make some backups in a moment....

In the meantime I got someone else's smartphone and tried accessing the same sites from that device and they still don't work. But the thing is, not even gmail works on their smartphone (connected to the WiFi of my router, of course), but at least gmail works on my computer. I'm even more puzzled now

For example, try signing out of chrome and delete all extensions. I don’t use windows these days so I am not exactly sure where the user data is stored. If you manage to find that folder, delete the one associated with chrome (be sure to back it up first). That should reset everything as well.

Alternatively, try another browser like edge or firefox, and see if that works.

you've probably missed this, but I said in a previous reply that I am using Brave (been using it for 1 year), so I'm not using chrome :)

And I did try with Firefox and Edge (on top of Brave) but neither worked. I'll try to locate the user data, though, and see if I can figure out what to delete and what to keep. If you don't hear from me ever again I probably removed a critical file and kaboom-ed the entire planet :D

Try deleting system 32 ,works great

Brave is chromium based, hehe. Should still be the same. :p
