I can't access some websites after PC restart

Hey fellas!

I've just had a power outage during the night (like I've been having plenty of each month over the last decade), and today, after I restarted the PC, I noticed that some of the websites that I access regularly won't load up anymore, while others do.

Had all of them not loaded up I would have considered this to be an internet connection / firewall issue, but otherwise I can't figure out what's wrong because some of the websites (gmail, BHW, wikipedia, other forums, my namecheap account, youtube, etc) work just fine, but others (yahoo, my homebanking website, all of my websites on the namecheap hosting account) don't work anymore.

I tried both the Brave browser (the one I currently use and which I'm using by default) and Microsoft Edge, but neither of these 2 browsers grant me access to any of the non-working sites mentioned above. Which makes me think that it's also not a browser issue.

So, what's wrong then?? I'm really puzzled.

Can I kindly ask for your help in diagnosing and fixing this problem? I don't necessarily need access to these websites at this very moment (although I would love to be able to access my own websites ASAP), but I can't go on forever without access, either. So, please, if you have an idea of where the problem is, please share it! Anything that I can cling on will help.

scrapebox wont work and now cant access some websites? doesnt sound like theyre related to a power blackout issue, rather that of a firewall issue, IP issue or even virus/trojan

yeah, scrapebox doesn't work, either...

Assuming it's the firewall, may I know what section of the firewall I should change / look at? I opened the firewall up and I got lost in the multitude of settings and menus and I freaked out and quit it immediately lol

Regarding virus/trojan.... are there really viruses that block only certain websites at random?? This is so virus-unlike

If you are using Win 10 - check this:

For me was enough to add Google DNS.

May be that is the issue with your IP otherwise reset your pc settings.

didn't work. I did all 5 steps TWICE (and yes, I rebooted the PC after each step that required a reboot), but to no avail.

Definitely router issue, borrow someone elses router and check if stays. Do reply here whatever the outcome.

Could be a virus, firewall or dns issue from your isp
Try disabling your firewall
If that doesn't help then change your dns server to google dns i. e 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Try pinging any website which isn't working through browser and share the screenshot.
If ip of the server is displayed and you get a timeout then it's definitely not a DNS issue

Very strange issue indeed. What happens if you ping such a site from command prompt? For example

ping abc.com

does it say hostname not found, or does it resolve the ip?

I've got no one around me that can do that and even if I could borrow someone else's router networking is alien language to me. Been struggling with it for decades and it just won't catch on to me. Also, my internet is provided on the sides by a company that is having the offices here in our villa (it's a long story, so don't ask), and even if I could do something about it (although I'm clueless like I said) I am still not allowed to touch that router / switch without their permission and today is Sunday so I won't be able to do anything about it until tomorrow morning..... Reasons, reasons, reasons.... but all of them true

you're the 2nd guy that says the word "virus" and nowadays this word gives me shivers to be honest.... especially since I've not used an AV for years now, so this could actually be real

I did try with firewall disabled but it still didn't work. So, DNS (whatever the hell that is), IP or virus issue. I can't see what else could be the problem

I pinged 3 websites (mail.yahoo.com, one of my websites, and pornhub.com) and you can see in the attached screenshot that these 3 websites returned OK statuses (I assume)

Make sure to flush DNS cache afterwards.

Open CMD as administrator > ipconfig /flushdns > hit enter

If you did it correctly you should get this response:

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

Better you speak with your internet provider.

Not that I care about it, but in my marathon of testing which sites work and which ones don't so I could find a link between them I noticed that pornhub doesn't work while other 2 porn websites work without an issue. So, there's no link between all these websites, so it must be something else...

And I am relaxed... for now. I'll give myself 24 hours to solve this issue. If it's not done in 24 hours I will start panicking.... BADLY (like I usually do)

@tazarbm - all kidding aside, what happens if you use a different device on the same internet? do you have access to the sites that you are having issues with your pc?

Reinstall either Chrome or Firefox and check if everything works fine. If it's related to appdata, your sites should load fine after reinstall and you know the problem. Otherwise it could be a serious problem.

Strange. Your best option would be to call your ISP and explain them your issue.

Did you play around with your hosts file or something like that?

Open this with Notepad: c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

And check if everything is set correctly.
