Well, you can easily create your own personal VPN via VPS resources. So this ban will be difficult to implement since the setup and usage is private and not commercial.

I think nobody tried to read the real news. The headlines on mainstream news websites are clickbait!

It's a parliamentry committe report suggestion and not the law. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) already clarified their position and they are NOT BANNING VPNs.
In fact the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had already relaxed the regulation norms on VPN under OSP(Other Service Providers) since March 2020 to facilitate work from home.

The committe was dissatisfied with the response of IT Ministry.
The suggestion didn't even take the form of draft bill.


Here is the original 90 page report where VPN is mentioned 11 times - "Atrocities and Crimes against Women and Children".

How can you ban VPN when the purpose of VPN is to hide your identity?

So basically all of the VPN companies from India will be stopped, but you will still be able to use overseas VPNs, right?

They won't take any action on VPN companies but block these services through ISPs just like how they blocked TikTok. India usually doesn't take any legal action on piracy sites either. They just block the domains through ISPs. I once bought a domain which was already blocked as it was earlier used for a piracy site.

Media is doing circular reporting. Google ranks whoever posts first, so they don't have time to verify the authenticity of News. I thought this News is genuine considering the current geopolitical scenario.
