None of us should be looking to the US government to help solve the energy crisis or to make anything better for anyone,anywhere.

The fact that I am American does not blind me to the fact that I live under the rule of perhaps the most corrupt government on the face of the earth. I am thirty years old now and as a small child I thought that there might be some honor in being American, but as the years go by I become more and more convinced that there is no honor at all to be claimed in this. Whatever grace America had in my father's and grandfather's eras has departed and will not return. The energy crisis in our country is just one manifestation of how ineffective and self-serving our system of gov. and the politicians that WE elect are.

It will get much worse.

I don't know mak111 but I'm going to guess that he didn't mean 911 didn't happen, like you suggest, but rather it is much more complicated than most Americans understand it to be. Conspiracy theory, sure, but it's a theory about who was behind 911, not whether or not the towers physically fell.

The self-loathing that SOME Americans profess is sad, indeed. But really, with the super-left wing NBC, ABC and CBS news programs feeding the US and the World steady diets of "what is wrong and corrupt with America" on a daily basis, what can we expect?

I got into a huge fight with some f^$#s on the Sindk*8 forum, because I grew sick of the "America Bashing" that was going on there. It wasn't pretty.

The reason was that true discourse was not allowed. If one tried to rebut or provide a different viewpoint, one was labeled as "Neocon" and idiot and so on.......

News Flash! When one person offers a viewpoint or opinion on a subject, then one should prepared for the opposite viewpoint. The viewpoints should consist of valid points, not nasty comments and so on......

And I will say it........I did react in a very nasty way to the very idea that 9/11 did not happen. I probably should have been a little more PC in my response to that absurd notion that 9/11 did not happen, but I did not. So, there is my imperfection. I won't apologize for it, at all.

So, I am aware of Americas and the rest of the world's faults and good points as well. Americans are good people who are the VERY most generous givers to those in need in the world. We have fought 2 World Wars that saved millions and lost over 291,000 Service Men and Women in the process in WW 2 alone.

How soon the rest of the world forgets...........everyone should watch "Saving Private Ryan" and then tell me that the US is a bad and evil country.

My grandfather lost his leg in France fighting the Nazis and my great-uncle NEVER was the same after fighting the Japanese in hell holes that we can not even begin to imagine the hell on earth that it was........

Infuriating to say the least when the US sacrifices are forgotten, not to mention the losses suffered by Canada, UK, Australia and so on.......they all made the ultimate sacrifice, in blood.

So, pardon me if I still love America. Forgive me if I still think of our country as a land of great opportunity (millions of Illegal Aliens try to come here every year). Try and look beyond my patriotism and love for fellow man (even those who have forgotten the sacrifices in blood that WE gave so that they could live without Nazi and Fascist Rule)............

Is America perfect, in one word, "no". But then again, are any of us or is any country perfect? No!!!

I was an architect before waking up to IM. It's not so much than an architect is reluctant to design with solar in mind.. It's that they have no clue how to make money doing it outside of so cal, arizona, and nevada. The power demand charge is about 4xs what it is on the east coast.

You'll also find that most residential only firms are hacks that keep designing the same shit over and over.. That's why we have the term "McMantion."

lastly, architecture edu is a joke... The industry is weird.. You have to go to school for 5 years to get your first degree, 3.5 for a masters in it.. Yet when you graduate, you get no job offer over 32k and then cannot be licensed for 3-5 years after that. Oh, and they teach nothing but theory, not actual building buildings...

Sorry for the slightly off topic rant... Just remembered why I hate architecture and also why I hate my $500/mo student loan payment.

Solar energy is amazing. Only downside is that it is very expensive. There are a few reasons for this; competition is minimal, architects reluctant to approve innovative unproven solar house designs, builders find that it is not profitable for them to spend excessive fees on designs and are not mainstream and salable.

My suggestion is that if you are really into it and have about $10k, gear up with some 2.5x5 PV panels, route them to your meter, and sell it back to the grid!

I ALMOST went to school by me for Gaming Design, I am part American Indian and so I qualify for the full loan pkg. It was 85k for the full courses to end with bachelors in computer science and business. I don't even wanna know what the student loans would have been but I later found out the whole thing was bullshit. Well you get the degree's but there accredited AND this "School" said their after graduation employment rates in the "Entertainment and Gaming Industry" were 88%-95%.. Little did we know they were counting employees working in Game Stop, Record World And Toys R Us. In the Industry meant selling "Industry Items" Even at the retail level.

Moral : Fully investigate A field before Pursuing a Career.. NO JUMPING IN HEAD FIRST.
