The Spanish Flu of 1918 came in 4 waves, and while the world eventually ended the pandemic, the Spanish Flu was never eradicated. It's with us every year in the form of the flu if you didn't know that.

The goal is to reach herd immunity and the variants keep raising that number so it was believed 50-60% of the population vaccinated would reach herd immunity but due to the variants it's now estimated to be 80-90% need to get vaccinated in order to reach herd immunity.
