Well i dont see why not. Youtube is pretty advanced. Theyre google, so they understand the seo game. Remember matt cutts. They fucking invented seo in a way.
Anyway there are only so many metrics they can use to rank videos, and i dont see why backlinks wouldnt be one of the ranking factors.
I cant say for sure, but id say yes.

Not just any kind of backlinks. They have to be the right kind. even organic social shares work great if the video is well-optimized, commanding thumbnail, got great retention and other engagements, it will help rank. They work for long time too
