Where to hire really good web developers?

I find it a struggle to find really good web developers and designers, does anyone have recommendations of where I can find them at? Freelancer is garbage these days, where did all the good talent go?

What did you mean by "talent"?
Cause (really) talented web devs work for big corps ( @ 6 figure/year).
They are not on freelance...

Any advice on where to find best content writers? This is my second biggest problem.. I have 1 writer she is amazing but limited on quantity as she's in college and only doing side work. I have seem to have to hire 10+ writers to find someone good, then they usually disappear after a few jobs lol

Dribble is good for seeking inspiration, but to go for a freelancer there will be a complicated task and can be done only if one has deep pockets.

To search for tech people on Linkedin is hilarious and can be suggested only by someone that hasn't done that, it's like tinder for devs, but where devs are the girls who never will respond to you. The deep pocket rule still applies.

Content writers on another hand you can try to look up here on the marketplace, I haven't tried them, but I think there are more than a few that could be worth your money. On Upwork - content writer selection process can be done, but will take time, dedication, and sheer will to find a good one. But if you will, it's worth the effort.

No, it's a wrong and misleading answer.

HR agencies will charge huuuuuuuge to find such talent, usually, HR agents are girls who have no idea what they are looking for, in very rare occasions there are special HR agencies that are good tech head hunters, but the costs of such hunt are.. let's just say you can hire a whole Indian web dev agency of more than few people to work for you a month or two.

I actually remember working with a developer a while ago from a french forum. They charged around $25/h and it was probably the best dev I ever worked with. It really depends when you try to find the perfect person for the job.

Okay, I agree. I code 10 hours per week, but that's enough to make the software, so whatever.
I can't fail coding for my own needs and I'm happy with that.
It's great that there is no horrible code review process.

Well, he asked for real talents, not students on a freelance. That's why dribble and Behance are good to go. He didn't say anything about his pocket or budget, so..

It looks like you are trying to find talented developers and designers for him that will be cheap. I don't think that you understand what "talented" means. Also, I have no idea what HR agencies you have met before but a good HR agency can find great developers.

What would you consider an indicator of developer's skill?

1. ability to test his own work before delivering it. a good developer will eliminate 90% of bugs by himself


2. ability to write a code that others can read and understand

3. ability to find workarounds and solutions for the most complex problems, even if it looks like this -

4. if dev uses a framework, then it must be used, too many times I tried to hire devs that state they know one or another framework, but in the end - they know only basics and then tries to compensate it by writing native code and it all ends very badly

If one has big pockets, they go for local agencies.

Dribble and Behance are tricky places, once you find a designer you like - you will be facing problems to find a contact, huge hourly rates, or risk to get ghosted, these are portfolio platforms, not meant to be for hiring. On upwork on other hand - one negative feedback can kill freelancers profile and throw him back for multiple months. I would NEVER hire freelancers off those platforms, that's a big no no.
