Cuz there is a huge difference in mindset when you're working something for free while others do the same and get paid for it.

The difference is not huge but there is a difference as I did it as a volunteer as well as paid staff.
The object is still the same; keep the forum in the right direction, help where you can help and when things are going sideways with a member or group of members clean things up.

I agree about the goal, but still not about difference, as I've seen it in real-life examples multiple times:
- private servers, 12k people with few paid and double that unpaid mods;
- volunteers/paid members in few communities (gaming, affiliate) and
- in my agency (when we take noobs to get them started, but they get knowledge at least, so it's not exactly the same)

Not here though... the difference is not something any who is not inside can see.
Paid Mods have more on their plate and specific duties as opposed to volunteer mods.
Maybe that is how things are in other forums but the rules we have to go by here as the staff are much stricter than you see in the ToS.

Very generous but the staff here is a team and we all work together on things.
Maybe y face is rather prominent here (bad for you folks that see my face) but we all discuss things well past what is required to make sure we serve the community as best as we can.

It's another story if you are unbearable in real life and a bad couple moderator but we don't have to experiment this.
Be careful, a guy just received a warning for some words he said, I know how you are but this joke was... almost against the rules
