Growing a Profitable Subreddit - Deep Dive on Reddit Journey

It's been a long time since I have posted anything on BHW.

My eBay business has kept me really busy and I stopped trying out methods. I had a youtube channel dedicated to trying out methods and discussing theories on how to make money online. I have abandoned the channel and don't intend on taking on the project any further. I am not a big fan of getting on video.

I have really wanted to build out websites. That to me seems like a mountain of work and honestly seems like a huge amount of work for a big question mark on whether it will be successful.

I started looking into how to build up a traffic source. I have built up facebook pages and instagram accounts to a varying degree of success and dont feel like those are right for what I want to do in the future.

Reddit is a powerhouse of traffic. I know that you can really harness that power and catapult yourself to some huge numbers if you know what you are doing. So my goal is to build a subreddit in a niche as well as several accounts with high karma. I also want to learn the process so that I can replicate it in any niche I want to build up.

Steps:

1. Pick a niche - I have no idea what are really good niches on reddit. I know there used to be reddit.guide but that is gone now and I have to figure out how to even pick a niche.
2. Create Accounts - I don't know how many accounts I will need. I need to figure out how to create a lot of accounts and make them stick and build up the karma on them.
3. Collect subreddits - Once I have the niche I will need a huge list of all the subreddits in that niche to crosspost to.
4. Set up the website - This is only listed last but once I know what niche I want, Ill most likely start work on the website.

I really want to understand every aspect of Reddit and how to use it as a traffic source.

My first step is to figure out a niche for a subreddit. The really important parts for me is that there is enough subreddits that i can crosspost to so that I can grow my own subreddit to pull traffic from. I was actually interested in the quiz sites method from reddit traffic but I also like the idea of building out niche sites.

Goals:

[ ] 100 subs
[ ] 1,000 subs
[ ] 10,000 subs
[ ] 100,000 subs
[ ] 1,000,000 subs (not holding my breath)

My purpose from this Journey will be to share what I learn and learn from others who want to share. I will answer any questions on here that anyone has and hope that others will do the same for me.

I won't be sharing my actual accounts. I am still shocked that people actually ask for this. I will however share what niches I decide to go into. I don't think ill keep to an actual posting schedule. Ill post whenever I feel like or to batch answer questions.

So these are the niches that Reddit feels is worth wild. My problem is whether or not these niches are so overly done that its hard to crosspost from my subreddit. I could go letter by letter looking for interesting niches as well. I might have better luck finding a niche that has tons of subreddits in it but isnt so restrictive as some of these mega niches. Decisions, decisions.

I also need to start building up some accounts. I only have a single account right now and its my personal account. I really don't care about it honestly because I am not a huge Redditor. I have heard the best way to build up karma is to go into the cute awww type subreddits and post images from 3 years ago that were popular and change them. I am going to join a few of these subreddits and see what gets the most karma and try and duplicate it.

As far as actual account creation, I know I can get away with having 5 Reddit accounts on my one IP address so I will start with that first. I know that you can create accounts with the TOR browser and throw away email addresses but I would like something with a bit more staying power then that. I want to have a rock solid method on how to create accounts that will stick.

I don;t know much about building a subreddit, but crossposting viral content is one way to gets a lot of subs.

Politics can be very hard to monetize in general, so I also wouldn't use it. Also, it's very important (in my experience) to pick a topic you can personally be interested in, or you will be much more likely to abandon it.

Didn't do personally but a friend told me he sold hats and shirts in the politic niche and it works well because people are EXTREMELY passionate in this niche, they will buy what defines them and politic is a strong field in which people identify themselves.

You would think that, but here in the US, we just switched parties. The party that just lost power is just as passionate as it was before the election. The party that gained power seems to have lost a lot of passion though.

Facebook limits your reach. I honestly don't know what Reddit does, but it cannot be as bad as Facebook. You can block the facebook admin as well which is a pain in the ass when they do that. You can spend the better part of the day removing the scum who do this. I think the moderation on Reddit seems much better. Honestly, who knows if its better, for me, its new.

You really have to monitize with ads, writing books, swag as well as guest posting and other creative ways. You also have to write a shit ton and the content isn't evergreen.

In all honesty, if you have a large audience of anything, you can most of the time monetize it. I have an instagram that is political and I have seen some guys who are hocking shirts and making a killing.

When i started my sub a year ago(nsfw) all i did was making good posts and crossposting as much as i could. Somedays i could get up to 1000 members. Im guessing it will be harder in sfw niches but i think this is the way to go if you want to get the best results.
