Cloudflare works great, check out the basic installation videos on YouTube and you should be good to go.

I'd recommend cloudflare's paid plan.
Just signup on their website and change your domain's DNS to their NS servers.

There are plenty of ways, the best is paying to outsource on Cloudflare or Sucuri.
Else you can add custom rules on your CSF firewall that comes usually with cPanel or Plesk.

every one recommend it because its free. The downside is its popularity, attackers know how it works and they have methods that bypass cloudflare protection.
I have never seen any one claim they can ddos a website behind incapsula. If cloudflare didnt stop them go to incapsula.

Yeah but 99% of attackers are noobs. It's unlikely he's fighting an attack from anything other than a script kiddie.

Actually, people recommends Cloudflare, that is fine for DoS.
DoS and DDoS are different things!
Cloudflare can handle with some low DDoS Attacks, and works very well in it.
But like @NX_NULL said, there are many Stressers that can bypass Cloudflare and make your website going down easily.
Script kiddie can do it, easily. It's just costs about 20-30$ per month for few attacks. And that can ruin your business or website.
My advice is, to go a Hosting Provider with good DDoS Protection, Cloudflare don't will handle with medium and large attacks.
And if your provider doesn-t have ddos protection, you will go down even with Cloudflare.
Cloudflare isn't the best solution or the cure, how some people are trying to say in this thread.

It all depends how you are hosting your website, if you are hosting your website within a shared hosting environment then apart from protecting your website with Cloudflare or a similar product there is not much you can do to prevent the attack, I would suggest hosting your website with a company that has good DDoS protection.
If you are hosting your website on a virtual private server or dedicated server then you will have a lot more freedom of your hosting surroundings. If you are hosted on a VPS or dedi then I would highly recommend checking out DDoS Guard protection, in short terms they are a 3rd party company who provide really good DDoS network protection. You will receive an IP address from them that you will use as your server IP that is accessible by port 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS), this will mean that all your traffic will be filtered through their IP.

DDos protection has many levels. Each level consists of several layers and depending on the possible threats you can use that.
Some DDos service providers have such option like "I'm under DDos attack" - so you can use that option in order to manage that. And of course different levels cost different money.
The easiest way is to have DDos proxy or something like that.
