When BTC crashes to $1M :(

My theory: He wanted to acquire a ton of bitcoin, just not at that price. And he wanted to try and push doge for a while.

The guy can legally manipulate the market with a tweet. Maybe he ll come out with his own coin.
How 'legal' is that manipulation?

He's manipulating a toy coin.

I think it began as a joke, just like the coin itself is a joke.

Then he noticed the idiots were real.

It's like when you post something sarcastic but everyone understands it literally. You then realize people are idiots.

That's what's happening.

If he were manipulating something like Bitcoin, which corporations own in their balance sheet, it'd probably have consequences.

So he chose the most ridiculous and worthless of all coins to play with. Can't say you're manipulating anything when you're fooling around with "dog coin".

Sure thing is that these jokes are starting to move a lot of money and scam a lot of people.
So a regulation will need to come sooner or later.

Maybe.

But then again if people buy "dog coin" just because Elon joked about it, whose fault is it?

Elon didn't do anything wrong. How can people actually buy into these half brained projects?

In the end it's a sort of "undue influence over persons non compos mentis".

Not easy to regulate, sure.

Totally legal. It's his company he can accept Bitcoin or not (depending on what he concludes w the shareholders of course, since it's a public company). So there's that. And he can tweet whatever he wants. Nothing illegal there.
