Good point. It is more nuanced than it appears to be.

Reddit: It made sense to make discussions polarized because of Reddit's target demographic. Their business model is "divide and sell" - through racial segregation, ideological separation and isolation of common interests. They did that through subreddits and downvoting. Subreddits kept people separated. Downvotes repelled people from where reddit didn't want them and attracted them to where Reddit wanted them to go.
Advertisers love those super focused niches.

I don't think BHW's business model is "divide and sell". Even if someone wants to, in business groups and forums, all that will achieve is polarization around the majority's ideas (even if they are foolish) and elimination of diverse ideas. One hundred people with no clue, just by numbers, can make good things look bad.

Consider this too: You open a thread complaining about a BST - you say the seller is providing bad service. You get downvoted to nether-land. People reading your post see 10 upvotes and 50 downvotes for your post.

I don't think its a good idea. It will be toxic for the community. I guess some people are going to take it personally, others will think twice about what they are posting, others don't want to get angry reactions and just stop posting completely.

Every network owner prefer to avoid such feature and there is a good reason

It takes some % of community engagement, would you love to lose % of your site's traffic? Of course not


But I would love to see this feature available for at least a week or few (as a test)

There are a lot of snowflakes who are going to go to your profile after a debate and downvote each and every post you've ever made.

I Absolutly NOT agree, BHW is a positive community, that needs to stay positive, to much shit going on already. You need to downvote people to feel good, move to Reddit.

Everyone above is spot-on as to why we haven't added any negative reactions to the forum.

They instead added a laughing reaction so you can still mock everyone with plausible deniability. Pretty much the same exists here already.

Yeah, it wasn't like this here at first, but over time, we've had more and more people using it to mock users, ideas, and posts like they're teenagers on Facebook. At this juncture, the only reactions I could see being implemented on the forum are the like, love, wow, and sad reactions. The laughing reaction won't have a future here if people keep using it sarcastically like a bitter Facebook clown who's upset that his ex is getting married to a rich guy next month.
