I don't know whether or not it's still profitable cause I've not earned a single cent with this (well, it's too early to tell) but in the last 3 weeks I have set up 3 autoblogs (working on my 4th one right now), and I will keep an eye on the stats and income and if they make me at least $200-300 per year I will consider them profitable.
Obviously that I want them to make me more than $300 per year, but... given how I don't do anything for that money and how the content is not that good I will let it go with just $300 per year
Also, I have heard someone say a few months ago on this forum (I don't remember who was it, though) that autoblogs are still profitable. But you obviously need to know what you're doing. The guy was having autoblog in the news niche.
An autoblog is basically a website that runs on autopilot. Well, the content "writing" and posting part of it anyway
And no, you are not dumb. You SHOULD write for your readers because your readers put money in your pocket. But the reason(s) you are making such little money is probably one - or all - of these:
- you've targeted a bad niche (a niche in which people don't spend much money, like for example: gaming hacks... or poker tips... meme creation... or whatever. These examples are very bad, I know, but I can't think of better examples at the moment)
- you're targeting the wrong keywords (keywords with very little, or no traffic at all)... or you're not even targeting any keywords at all, which is even worse
- you are not getting enough traffic
- your traffic doesn't convert very well for one, or more of these reasons: no / poor call to action, monetization method is not targeted to their needs, your traffic is poor in general, your articles (blog posts) are informational only, etc
- you don't rank in google (where most of the traffic that converts is) because your competition is too high, your website too bad, your backlinks too few or too low quality, or any combination of these elements, or any other element that's important for ranking in google but which I can't think of at the moment.
the only SEO I've done is interlink the pages of each autoblog (not the blogs themselves), but even that part is done poorly (I overoptimized the shit out those internal links) but I don't care.
These autoblogs are just to test if autoblogging works because there are mixed opinions about this topic. Besides, I had $8,90 left in one of my domaining accounts which I could not get out, so instead I purchased 4 domain names for cheap while they were on offer and that's when I decided to do something with these domains since I couldn't get my money out of that account
The domains are pretty catchy and brandable, like for example if the niche is computers (just an example) then my domain name is something like computergeek.pc (I don't know if this extension exists or not, but I typed it to give you an example)... or if the niche is dating the domain name that I purchased was myhot.date... or if the niche was movie downloads then the domain name would be movie.download
I am actually pretty happy with the domain names that I found LOL... I just don't know, however whether or not they'll amount to anything in the end because everything depends on google. Speaking of which....
The traffic will come from google... if ever. If not, I don't care. But if one of these websites starts getting love from google (rankings, traffic and sales) I will start caring about it and ignore the others. To prepare myself for this eventuality I created topical pages, just in case that the autoblogs start getting rankings. It's easier (and recommended) to keep the structure of your URLs intact in case that google decides that my autoblog is the best website they've seen LOL
So, for example.... let's take the computers niche again (note: my websites are not in the computers niche, but it's easier for me to give this example). So, let's say that the niche is computers, and that my autoblog is on the domain name computergeek.pc
Well, the homepage of the website is talking about computers in general, but the other pages (the inner pages, the ones that I referred to as "topical" pages) are:
- motherboards
- CPUs
- GPUs / video cards
- RAM
- Peripherals
Something like that. And then the autoblogging software that I'm using creates and posts 600-700 words of 100% unique articles to one of these pages each day for an entire year (or until my credits run out, but if I see google love to any of these autoblogs in the next 3-4 months I'll buy more credits just so I can keep the madness running)

Everyone has their own way you say... Well, the best is to quit blogging for me I think, It gave me nearly nothing after 2 years, maybe I was a newbie and made tons of mistakes, I don't know. I'll try my chance in other fields.
