Big shame, it was a site that I visited at least once per day for the past 7-8 years.
But honestly, the site died a few years ago when they started censoring content and made the chat more inaccessible so the community started to die off.

This wasn't directly their fault as I believe that their advertisers got more strict.

There is a huge market of publishers of such content and small businesses wanting to advertise, that aren't being connected because main stream advertiser networks aren't willing to service either. A website such as liveleak would be a great place to market life insurance or disability insurance policies, self defense materials, safety devices etc.

Exactly, I kind of agree with this.
I think the problem was that they went through the big networks, which disallowed their content so they sanitized and slowly killed the site.

Had they somehow gotten direct contact with the companies in the fields that you mentioned, then they might have survived.
But then again, what kind of PR will you get from advertising insurance on these kind of sites.

I don't think a major company could do the advertising themselves, but a local firm that sells policies could.

They should have hired the rapper Tekashi 69 as a marketing consultant, (like him or hate him) he understands, "Direct To Consumer Marketing."

I'm trying to figure out how to get mentions on his channel; we tracked one of his last livestreams this past week, he had 800k+ people watching. Look at his Shopify store; he sold out, probably in minutes, maybe less.

There are other artists, who are signed to labels, but their contracts afford them a high degree of autonomy in terms of marketing, merchandising and their masters.

My point?

LiveLeak seemed to have missed the boat on "Direct To Consumer Marketing."

They had enough people who had vested interests in that platform, who they could have used to help build the LiveLeak empire with.

No.

LiveLeak at its peak was a website focused on gore, mostly videos of suicide and from groups such as ISIS.

It was a better BestGore (which also shut down recently).

The LiveLeak community had a sense of humor, and weren't edgy tryhards like Bestgore's folks.

I was active on LL in "its glory days", eventually it started dying after they prohibited gore. I left that place without looking back.
