The average B2C email open rate is 15%-25%.
But there are tricks you can use to increase this.
By following the approach below I can usually get 70%-80%+ open rates.
- Make sure your email list is opt-in, using a hook offer.
- Make sure you are sending from a clean domain in your auto-responder.
- Add a relevant emoji at the start of your subject line. You can select any emoji from https://emojipedia.org/ and copy paste into the subject line.
- Straight after the emoji add their first name. *|FNAME|* is the code to use in Mailchimp to personalize emails.
- Now add the rest of your clickbait or compelling subject line. The most successful are based on proven to work email formulas.
Here are a couple of those formulas…
THE HOW-TO FORMULA
Concentrate on the benefit.
How {world-class example or average guy/girl} {does some amazing thing}
How to {do this amazing thing}
How to {do this amazing thing} without {this unpleasant thing}
Example:
Queen are back? How to avoid waking up with their song in your head!
THE OPEN LOOP FORMULA
Pure Clickbait! The idea is you give away just enough to make people want to open, and then – importantly – you give them what they were seeking in the email body itself.
I messed up
{Person or pronoun} said it was the {right / wrong / scary} thing to do
FYI… You should be {doing / seeing / reading} this
FYI… You shouldn’t waste another second {doing / seeing / reading} this
{High-value something} for you
The {superlative} thing to happen to {industry} since…
In case you haven’t heard
NOTE:
You must close the loop in the body of the email, you can always repeat by opening another a loop to keep them coming back!
There are many more email tricks and formulas that can be used to increase open and click through rates, but these should get you started!
