I don't see a difference.
You just install a WP, config the recipes for each single blogpost site and you are ready to go.
With a specific software, you will be doing pretty much the same: installing the software, instead of installing WP and configuring each single account which is the same as configuring each IFTTT recipe.

But I feel some need to be spoon-fed with a tube into the throat

you can use medium.com or any other platform supported by ifttt instead of havong a website

But blogspot seems hard to index even I use google console , so I give up
